DVD Review: Um. . . . . .Why?
Summary: 2 Stars
I know there are far more annoying comedies than YOU, ME AND DUPREE--I'm just at a loss to recall them. So let's dispense with formalities and call this film what it is: contrived, silly, predictable, stereotyped, formulaic, nut jub ending, and annoying. When Owen Wilson is good, he's downright fun to watch; when he's bad, you want to put your foot through the flat screen. Thank goodness for self-control, or I would be looking for a new 32-inch.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, newlyweds Carl and Molly (Matt Dillon and Kate Hudson) make a colossal mistake inviting Carl's deadbeat, immaturish best bud Dupree (Wilson) off the street and into their home. And we have the subplot of Carl going to work for Molly's overbearing, boorish, obnoxious, and highly disapproving father (Michael Douglas). Dupree is a walking catastrophe, so everything goes wrong, from stopped up toilets to setting the living room on fire, thereby creating (surprise!) a noticeable strain on Carl and Molly's marriage. And not only is Wilson annoying as accident-prone Dupree; he's in-your-face annoying, over the top times ten. Meanwhile stressed-out Carl becomes even more paranoid dealing with the office and home, while Hudson's Molly just stands around looking ticked off. Then we move to a reconciliation of all parties (never saw that coming), followed by an ending so goofy I was cringing with embarrassment vicariously for Wilson. The only bright spot was, predictably, Seth Rogen.
In summary, do you want to see an entertaining, interesting, compelling, engaging, witty, charming comedy? Then do not see YOU, ME AND DUPREE.

My huaband and I laugh everytime we watch the movie. Seems to get funnier everytime we watch it. We catch something we missed before. Believe me its not an oscar winner but its a good belly laugher and a movie I would lke keep in our movie collection, DVD Review: The film was funny all around...it is absolutely hilarious!!

At first I was perplexed saddened to see so many people give this movie negative reviews even though the plot was so strong and it is hard to argue that it wasn't funny (my funniest scene was where Kate Hudson's character Molly goes to the bathroom and finds the toilet nearly overflowing with Dupree's fecal matter...that part made me laugh nonstop for a whole minute)!! It also cracked me up at the part where Matt Dillon's character Carl tells Dupree that what he did in the bathroom and how he made Molly clean up his mess was absolutely disgusting. The other funny parts in the movie is where Molly catches Dupree masturbating while he is sleeping downstairs and he makes a mess on her face!
Dupree is temporarily living at Carl and Molly's residence and chilling on their couch until he finds a place of his own, and makes life a total 'mess' for them (he can't stay still for one minute without getting in their way) that they have to kick him out of the house when he brings people over and accidentally burns their couch down. Even after they kick him out, Molly feels sorry for him and see him get drenched in the rain and agrees to take him again. Carl thinks Dupree is falling in love with Molly and is trying to steal her away from him, and believes Molly's dad Mr. Thompson (played by Michael Douglas) is totally on Dupree's side and wants the marriage to fall apart. That leads to the strange violent scene at the dinner table where Carl chokes Dupree yelling in his face and calling him names, and where Molly's dad has to physically restrain him! There are so many funny parts in the movie that hopefully I highlighted the key ones.
This movie is so funny that you will probably want to watch it about twice a year. In my opinion this is a great comedy with wonderful actors, a well designed script, and a great story line.

I THOUGHT ANOTHER NOT SO FUNNY FILM FROM HOLLYWOOD. IT WAS A BLAST. THE WRITERS TOOK CERTAIN TRUTHS ABOUT A YOUNG MARRIAGE ADJUSTING FROM FORMER SINGLE LIFE TO BEING A COUPLE. THE ACTING WAS EXCELLENT. WHAT A FUNNY FUNNY MOVIE.

Newlyweds Carl and Molly (Dillon and Hudson) are just beginning their life together when Carl's oldest friend, the down-and-out bachelor Randy Dupree (Wilson), crashes on the couch. One comic mishap follows another, and soon it becomes obvious that two's company, but Dupree's a crowd. You'll laugh 'til it hurts with this hilarious, outrageous comedy!There are a lot of broad comedies about men refusing to grow up, but few have the sly bite of You, Me and Dupree. Even though Carl (Matt Dillon, Crash, There's Something About Mary) is newly married to Molly (Kate Hudson, Almost Famous, How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days), when his best friend Dupree (Owen Wilson, Wedding Crashers, The Life Aquatic) ends up homeless, Carl invites Dupree into their house--in which Dupree promptly makes himself at home, culminating in setting the place on fire during lurid sex. You, Me and Dupree seems at first glance to be a frat-boy farce about men being emasculated by their wives, but the well-written script, guided with a sure hand by director team Joe and Anthony Russo (who each directed episodes of the top-notch TV series Arrested Development), successfully walks a treacherous path between multi-layered characters and comic events, and is all the funnier as a result.
