DVD Reviews of Yoga For AthletesDVD Review: Great For Many Sports Summary: 5 StarsI first started using this DVD back in college when our coach found it and heard good recommendations about it.
There was some hesitation from some to use yoga, but everyone tried it and it helped alot. The routines are explained very well and in a straightforward manner which made it easy for us to follow, and I continue to use it.
You simply select your sport (good selection including some things I have added, such as running) and what you would like to work on. General, Legs, Arms, etc.
Alot of variety and helped alot with flexibility and preventing injury/nagging soreness after practice.
DVD Review: Not Explanetory Enough Summary: 2 StarsThis disc has workouts for almost any sport you can think of, using accessible yoga poses (plank, warriors, etc.) So, if you're looking to have a restorative workout, it is OK.
However, there is abosolutely NO explanation about why these sequences were chosen or how they support a given sport.
Also, since all of the sequences choose from the same 40 or so poses, the running sequence is oddly like the golf one. Not very satisfying, and didn't help me achieve my goal of understanding how yoga supports atheletes of different flavors.
Am going to buy Sage Roundtree's book on the subject...
DVD Review: Customize routine to meet your needs Summary: 5 StarsI have the "Yoga Complete For Athletes" and it is almost the same as this one listed. Similar cover, same guy, and same set of routines.
I purchased this DVD because of the "customized" routines depending on the sport/activity of interest. I have tried some of the Hiking and Cycling routines. What I like about these routines is that it allows me to focus on a specific area depending on the sport/activity that I participate in. The routines range from 20, 30 or 60 minutes, if I remember correctly. After doing the routines, I often feel very relaxed - It's such a great feeling.
What I didn't expect and it amazed me is....
A little over a year ago, I woke up with my ENTIRE back in pain. I did the 1 hour - Hiking/Back yoga routine, and when I was done, the pain was 100% GONE! I couldn't believe it.
Last Sunday, I did a 10-mile bike ride, a NEW hobby of mine - cycling that I started 3 weeks ago. I woke up this morning (Wednesday) with the entire back of my neck, both shoulders, upper and lower back, both jaws and upper arms in pain. Somehow, I made it through the day... When I got home tonight, I did the 30 minute - Biking/Shoulders routine, and I feel 90% better in my shoulders/back/arms area, and if I were to also do the back routine, I would probably feel 100% better. The DVD doesn't have a routine for the neck, and I wish it did. I did my own stretches in the neck area for 15 minutes, and my neck feels 60% better.
I am sharing my story is that not only Yoga helps reduce stress, increase flexibility and strenghten muscles, because it stretches your muscles, it can help ease the pain and discomfort in the muscles. What I like about this DVD is the speed and the calming voice. Because the movements are slow, it allows the muscles to stretch slowly and gives it enough time to stretch before moving into a slightly different angle or different position. I feel this is the key to doing yoga properly as well as stretching the muscles.
I am not a doctor, and I am not recommending using yoga for self-healing. In some cases, a medical professional is required.
I am really glad that I got this DVD, and I highly recommend it.
DVD Review: Great for multi sport athletes Summary: 4 StarsI was overwhelmed in a good way by the number of different routines on this DVD! I am a runner, so I tried several of the running yoga routines, but there are routines for cycling, hiking, and many other sports I enjoy.
Runners can do the yoga poses and routines on this DVD to help stretch any tight, stiff muscles on crosstraining days. I would recommend this DVD for runners.
DVD Review: Help Your Game Summary: 5 StarsI purchased this because of the routines for Tennis since I enjoy playing, but had some issues in terms of moving as well as I wanted to.
This has really helped me improve my flexibility and I feel better when going for the ball, and more importantly, afterwards, where I do not feel as sore.
My son, who plays baseball and swims AAU, started using it and has found it has really helped him out. My husband is now considering trying it for the golf.
Nice clear instruction to help you with a variety of sports. Though you do "feel" it, it really is not a cardio workout, so I also added some more cardio workouts.
