DVD Reviews of X2 - X-Men United (Full Screen Edition)DVD Review: A Great Sequel!! Summary: 5 Stars
X2 is simply an awesome movie and a great DVD. The movie was great in every possible way and I found very little to zero flaws during this movie. For starters, X2 is certainly better than the first movie. This reason being simply that the first movie was more of an introduction to the whole idea of X-Men for the audience that was not familiar with X-Men as a whole. However, this movie really gets into the hard core storylines such as Jean & Cyclops' relationship, Wolverine's past, and adds some interesting if not critical characters like William Stryker, Pyro, and Nightcrawler. The movie never gets boring and always keeps you into it with its great acting and eye-popping action. But make no mistake about it, X2 really focuses in on the storylines of the comic book which has made X-Men a successful franchise. A lot of credit has to be given to Bryan Singer for directing this film because he was able to stick to the main plots without making any real significant changes to the X-Men storyline. He also improved this film by getting rid of Sabretooth and Toad since those characters really were never critical to the comics nor are they in Singer's 1st film. Also, Singer cleverly keeps out the most annoying character, Jubilee, from the movie. In fact, this DVD reveals how a minor scene that included Jubilee was deleted. Some characters that Singer may want to introduce in the next film are Beast, Mr. Sinister, or even Omega Red. He may want to consider giving Colossus a bigger role if he includes Omega Red. But most of all, Singer has to include Gambit in the next film. His real name (Remy Lambeau) is shown in one scene as another reviewer already wrote and Henry McCoy (Beast) is briefly shown on a TV set in one scene. So one has to expect that they will be included in the next film. Overall, X2 is brilliantly directed and screenplayed. The DVD is awesome in that it's a two disc set which has plenty of features that really go behind the scenes of X2. If you're an X-Men fan, don't hesitate buying this DVD. Buy it right away, you won't regret it! I can't wait until X3 comes out because it will be interesting to see where Singers goes with the the transformation of Jean into the Phoenix.

Description of X2 - X-Men United (Full Screen Edition)The evolution continues in this "exhilarating thrill ride" (Seattle Post-Intelligencer) that features the extraordinary original X-Men - along with amazing new mutants possessing fantastic powers that have to be seen to be believed. In the wake of a shocking attack on the President, the X-Men face their most dangerous mission ever. They must stand united with their deadliest enemies to combat a menace that threatens every mutant on the planet. But could this new alliance backfire and annihilate the human race? Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Hugh Jackman, Hale Berry, Famke Janssen and Rebecca Romijn-Stamos star in this breathtaking, action-packed spectacle that "may be the best superhero movie yet made!" (San Francisco Examiner) X2 does a fine job of picking up where X-Men left off, giving fans more of what they liked the first time around. Under the serious-minded custody of returning director Bryan Singer, the second film of this Marvel comics franchise ups the ante on Professor Xavier (Patrick Stewart) and the superhero mutants from the first film, pitting them against a mutant-hating scientist (Brian Cox) who's determined to wipe out the mutant race by tricking Xavier into abusing his telepathic powers. More a series of spectacles than a truly satisfying thriller, X2 introduces new mutant allies while giving each of the X-Men alumni--notably the temporarily helpful Magneto (Ian McKellen)--their own time in the spotlight. Well aware of the parallels between "mutantism" and virulent intolerance in the real world, Singer lends real gravity to the proceedings, injecting dramatic urgency into a continuing franchise that, in lesser hands, might've grown patently absurd. --Jeff Shannon
