DVD Reviews of What Happens in Vegas (Widescreen Edition)DVD Review: Happly, a very good movie. Summary: 4 Stars
In a time when so many different crazy things are happening and there's something new every second. Movies now a days have hit a low point. I usually don't bother to rent new movies. I should say I don't feel like wasting my money. This time though I was very happy with my choice to rent. I told my mother how good it was (she said she didn't think she would like it) and me, her and my step father are going to watch it tomorrow night. Below I will tell you a little about the movie. I don't want to give too much away so I will just give you enough so you can better understand the film.
The cast has some pretty good actors in it. The ensemble includes Ashton Kutcher. Who has been in films like Butterfly effect 2004 and Guess Who 2005 and Cameron Diaz who we've seen in There's something about Mary 1998 and Charlie's Angles. The movie also has two less well known (to me at least) actors. They are Lake Bell who has been in shows such as Surface 2006, Boston Legal 2004-2006 and Rob Corddry who's been in things like Failure to Launch 2006 and Semi-Pro 2008. You see Corddry and Bell throughout the film. Corddry will probably make you laugh a lot of the times he is on. Corddry has a brother who is an actor as well. Hi name is Nathan Corddry. He has not been in that many things as of yet though. Look forward to seeing more with him in the future. Also, Treat Williams who plays Jack Fuller Sr. or Jack Fullers father. Williams is a well known actor who has been in many movies. So while the cast may not be huge you will more than likely find (as I did) that it does nothing but help the movie.
Now it's time to tell you a little about the movie. It's about two people who are having a hard time with life. One just lost his job and the other just broke up with her fiancé. There friends talk them into going to Vegas in order to help them feel better. Lucky for us they both decide to go. By some misfourtion they just happen to be booked in the same room. So we get two sets of friends staying in the same room. They go to set things straight. Diaz character talks first, yelling at the man at the desk. She gets them two good rooms of there own. Then Kutchers character goes up and talks and gets them V.I.P passes to places around the place they are staying. They end up having a drink with each other and talking. Diaz's character wakes up the next morning with a ring on her finger and a note that says were having breakfast. She finds out they got married!
They find out that each wants to break it up so they go to get a divorce. During all this Kutchers character get a coin from Diaz character and wins 3 million in Vegas. The ownership comes to question. They talk to a judge. The judge (who is played by Dennis Miller) gets mad at them. He tells them that they are what's wrong with America. He forces them to stay married for 6 months. While at the same time going through counseling he also puts a freeze on the winnings until the time is up. If one asks to leave the marriage they will not get any of the money so they stay together.
Throughout the movie many funny things happen. Like Kutchers character taking the toilet seat off and Diaz character falling into the toilet. At on point Kutchers character puts energy pills in Diaz characters drink. Later you see her at work really hyper and freaking out. This may not sound that funny but when you see it I am sure you will find it otherwise. You will laugh and wonder what will happen. Also, the movie does a good job of making itself available to those of a younger age. It does so by watching the language. There are parts when they could say some really bad stuff but tone it down. Making it funny without any foul language at all. I thought it was pretty cool of them. There is some language though so parents check before the kids watch it.
In the end you may get teary but you will have the feeling of seeing a good well balanced movie. I was very happy with this film. It's two actors that I have always liked and respect playing parts that make you happy in the end. I would say this is a sure rental and for many a great buy. I think those of all ages will find it entertaining.

Description of What Happens in Vegas (Widescreen Edition)After the wildest party night of their lives, two mismatched strangers, Jack (Ashton Kutcher) and Joy (Cameron Diaz), wake up in Vegas to discover they not only got lucky ?" they got married! The road to annulment takes a hilarious turn after Jack wins a three-million-dollar jackpot while playing Joy??s quarter and a no-nonsense judge (Dennis Miller) sentences them to six months ??hard marriage.? What follows is an all-out war of the sexes as Jack and Joy go to outrageous lengths to try and cheat each other out of the money. But in the end, they may learn that when you gamble on love, you just might win, against all odds! What Happens in Vegas is a comedy waiting to happen. It takes an old premise (drunk strangers regretting their decision to get married in Las Vegas) and adds in a dilemma (a $3 million slot machine win) that could've been easily resolved. But then again, there would've been no movie if the unhappily wedded couple figured out that splitting the money in half and getting their marriage annulled would've been quick and effective. Cameron Diaz plays uptight clean-freak Joy, who has just been dumped by her fiance. Ashton Kutcher is Jack, a slacker furniture maker who has been fired--by his own dad. Each goes to Vegas to let off some steam. And while they have nothing in common (except being exceptionally good looking) they make out, get married, and fight over the money Jack wins with Joy's quarter. Instead of letting the couple get divorced, a judge sentences the odd couple to half a year of marriage. What happens in Vegas doesn't stay in Vegas, but extends into New York where Jack and Joy live. Both actors have fared well in comedies, especially Diaz in My Best Friend's Wedding. And while Kutcher still has to live down Dude, Where's My Car?, he showed a lot of comedic flair and charm in A Lot Like Love. But the two face an uphill battle here with inane dialogue and a premise that not only is unbelievable, but unlikeable. The two are so incompatible (and immature) they can't even control bathroom time and, in Jack's case, his bladder. --Jae-Ha Kim
