DVD Reviews of Wall-E (Three-Disc Special Edition + Digital Copy and BD Live) [Blu-ray]

DVD Review: Wall-E
Summary: 5 Stars

Arrived quickly. THANKS. Never bought the DVD, so was really excited about watching Wall-E on Blu-ray again.

DVD Review: Delightful film ruined by ending
Summary: 1 Stars

The beginning of the movie was delightful. The Wall-E character looked like he was modeled, at least in part, after the "pilot" of the "Star Tours" ride at Disneyland. He is an adorable creature with endearing quirks, such as throwing away a diamond ring, but keeping the box it came in. With almost no dialogue, the filmmakers convincingly depict the burgeoning romance between him and the EVE robot. Once the action moves to the spaceship, however, the story falls apart. We never learn why the little plant is so important. If it's a sign that the denuded Earth can once again harbor plant life, the battle for control of the plant is meaningless - once everyone on the ship has seen it, it's too late; the secret is out.

Unfortunately, the ending is so implausible as to ruin the entire film. I understand that movies require a suspension of disbelief, but this does not extend to the acceptance of illogical developments. The ending is not "hopeful;" it is incoherent. We are asked to believe that the humans, who have never lived outside the spaceship, whose every need is administered by robots, who have never in their lives even stood up, will be able to survive (happily, yet!) on a desolate Earth, devoid of plants, animals, water, plagued by storms so violent that even the hardy Wall-E must take shelter, and most significantly, with no knowledge of agriculture! The Captain may believe that if he plants pizzas and waters them, they will grow, but this belief will not make it so. In a few weeks, the surviving humans, if any, would be back on the ship, begging the robots to allow them to return to their former lives.

DVD Review: A devestating indictment of consumerism
Summary: 5 Stars

Seriously, this movie contains one of the most scathing critiques of consumerism ever to be seen in a movie--and it's a kid's film!

The ending is a bit optimistic for my taste (frankly, I can't imagine the humans depicted in the film could survive for a day on post-apocalyptic Earth), but, as I said, it's a kids film.

I have seen this movies dozens of times, at the request of my four year-old son, and it wears surprisingly well through repeat viewings. I notice something new every time I see it. Also, the lack of dialogue gives me ample opportunity to discuss the movie and it's themes with my son. Highly recommended.

DVD Review: Wall-E, a Robot Who Will Touch Your Heart
Summary: 5 Stars

This movie is one of the sweetest movies out there. It tells the tale of Wall-E, a robot designed to clean up planet earth as the humans are off in space and doing so he discovers he is destined for greatness. He and an army of robots must go into space and bring the humans back to earth, before evil robots destroy them. A great family movie. It's has great storyline and its lack of dialogue in places dosent hinder the of the movie at all. If you've got kids they'll and you will love this movie.

DVD Review: Generally not my type of movie, but it was good!
Summary: 5 Stars

Usually I look for the post-apocalyptic zombie movies, but this one stood out to me, and I really enjoyed watching it. I purchased this as a gift, and they were happy to get it!

Description of Wall-E (Three-Disc Special Edition + Digital Copy and BD Live) [Blu-ray]

The highly acclaimed director of Finding Nemo and the creative storytellers behind Cars and Ratatouille transport you to a galaxy not so far away for a new cosmic comedy adventure about a determined robot named Wall-E. After hundreds of lonely years of doing what he was built for, the curious and lovable Wall-E discovers a new purpose in life when he meets a sleek search robot named Eve. Join them and a hilarious cast of characters on a fantastic journey across the universe. Transport yourself to a fascinating new world with Disney-Pixar's latest adventure, now even more astonishing on DVD and loaded with bonus features, including the exclusive animated short film Burn-E. Wall-E is a film your family will want to enjoy over and over again.
Pixar genius reigns in this funny romantic comedy, which stars a robot who says absolutely nothing for a full 25 minutes yet somehow completely transfixes and endears himself to the audience within the first few minutes of the film. As the last robot left on earth, Wall-E (voiced by Ben Burtt) is one small robot--with a big, big heart--who holds the future of earth and mankind squarely in the palm of his metal hand. He's outlasted all the "Waste Allocation Load Lifter Earth-Class" robots that were assigned some 700 years ago to clean up the environmental mess that man made of earth while man vacationed aboard the luxury spaceship Axiom. Wall-E has dutifully gone about his job compacting trash, the extreme solitude broken only by his pet cockroach, but he's developed some oddly human habits and ideas. When the Axiom sends its regularly scheduled robotic EVE probe (Elissa Knight) to earth, Wall-E is instantly smitten and proceeds to try to impress EVE with his collection of human memorabilia. EVE's directive compels her to bring Wall-E's newly collected plant sprout to the captain of the Axiom and Wall-E follows in hot pursuit. Suddenly, the human world is turned upside down and the Captain (Jeff Garlin) joins forces with Wall-E and a cast of other misfit robots to lead the now lethargic people back home to earth. Wall-E is a great family film with the most impressive aspect being the depth of emotion conveyed by a simple robot--a machine typically considered devoid of emotion, but made so absolutely touching by the magic of Pixar animation. Also well-worth admiring are the sweeping views from space, the creative yet disturbing vision of what strange luxuries a future space vacation might offer, and the innovative use of trash in a future cityscape. Underneath the slapstick comedy and touching love story is a poignant message about the folly of human greed and its potential effects on earth and the entire human race. Wall-E is preceded in theaters by the comical short Presto in which a magician's rabbit, unfed one too many times takes his revenge against the egotistical magician.
