MATT HARDY defeated REY MYSTERIO to Retain the CruiserWeight Title: I only wanted 2 things out of this match. I thought if it had those 2 factors, the rest would take care of itself. Firstly, that it was the first bout on the card. I have long been an advocate of cruiserweight matches opening up any show to get the crowd hot. This was also done well on the SmackDown before WrestleMania. Secondly, I wanted it to last at least 12 minutes. Not 20, not even 15, just 12. I got 6 measly minutes. The match was still good, but it didn't really allow the duo to show how truly talented they are. Match Rating...7
THE UNDERTAKER defeated THE BIG SHOW & A-TRAIN: What can I say about the WWE deciding to leave my fellow countryman Nathan Jones out of this match. It was a good decision as he is not ready for an event as big as WrestleMania, and he probably wouldn't have got a great deal of help from his colleagues in the ring. The Undertaker impressed me for the second pay-per-view in a row, and I'm starting to think that the time off he had has done him the world of good. This was far from a classic, but it was sufficiently entertaining & had a decent finish that made sense. Match Rating...6
TRISH STRATUS defeated VICTORIA & JAZZ to Win the Women's Title: A very good match. This was a fitting climax to the seemingly never-ending feud between these three ladies. The bout was well planned & structured, while it also was void of any major botched moves which has plagued the division for quite some time now. Now if only the division can add a little more depth to cover the loss of Victoria while she has knee surgery. Match Rating...7
SHELTON BENJAMIN/CHARLIE HAAS defeated LOS GUERREROS & RHYNO/CHRIS BENOIT to Retain the WWE Tag-Team Championship: This was another good match that could have been a fair bit better if it was given more time to play out. Team Angle acquitted themselves quite well on the big stage, but the real surprise for me here was Chavo Guerrero. I have thought for quite some time that Chavo is not up to the better wrestlers in the WWE, and while that still holds true, I thought he played a major role in the better parts of this match. Hopefully, he can use this match as a kick-start to his career. Match Rating...7
SHAWN MICHAELS defeated CHRIS JERICHO: Many people, including myself, believed that this would be the match of the night. It did not disappoint, and was enthralling for most of it's 20+ minutes. The result was very debatable though. And I'm not saying that because it was the only match on the card that I incorrectly predicted. Also debatable is whether or not Chris Jericho will get his long-deserved push from this match. While it was the match of the night, it lacked that classic attention-grabbing characteristics that those type of matches often have. However, in isolation, this was an extremely entertaining & satisfying bout between 2 top-notch performers. Match Rating...9
TRIPLE H defeated BOOKER T to Retain the World HeavyWeight Title: This match was disappointing in my mind. I was really expecting the two to fit in quite well with each other & I was quietly confident of a very good match. But the glove just didn't fit, so to speak. Booker T looked reluctant to push his offense, while Triple H unfortunately did not step up as I thought he might (because it was WrestleMania). It's a shame, as I was really hoping for a rematch at Backlash where Booker would win the title. Now I'm not so sure. This was far from terrible, but it wasn't great. Match Rating...6
HULK HOGAN defeated VINCE McMAHON: I really can't add too much about this match that you probably didn't think yourself. Apart from the strange & unexpected Rowdy Roddy Piper appearance, this was a predictable & entertaining 20 minute streetfight which saw lots of blood spilt. In a way I'm glad this wasn't the main event of the evening, as I thought it was a poor man's version of the WrestleMania 17 match between Vince & Shane McMahon. But like I said, it was entertaining. Especially the "Here's Vince" mat-high camera shot of a bloodied Vince peeking over the apron with that prototypical maniacal look of his. Match Rating...7
THE ROCK defeated STONE COLD STEVE AUSTIN: Definitely not up to the standard of their two previous WrestleMania matches, this bout just seemed to be missing something. It was probably because neither man (especially Austin) is at the top of their game right now. It was still entertaining though, in a similar way to the previous (Hogan/McMahon) match. The ending was a little strange, as it took 3 Rock Bottoms to put away Austin. But at the end of the day, the correct person won, in my opinion. Match Rating...7
BROCK LESNAR defeated KURT ANGLE to Win the WWE Championship: Firstly, I'm glad that the WWE decided to have this as their main event of the evening. The match started off scratchily, but gathered momentum rather nicely as it went along. This was probably more to do with the settling of nerves for both competitors. Angle's neck injury was only really noticeable if you looked for it. I tried not to, so as to attempt to judge the match on it's merits. The ending finally came & I just knew that Lesnar was finally going to drag out his shooting star press. It just made sense to do so. But as he looked at the top rope, I immediately realized that Angle would be too far away. I was expecting Angle to crawl to the middle of the ring. What Lesnar attempted was extremely ambitious (if still very impressive) to say the least. The two did well to continue the match afterwards, and overall, this was an above average match which was a sufficient WrestleMania main event. Match Rating...8
PPV RATING (64/90) = 71
Looking at the key, I have basically given WrestleMania 19 a 'B+' grade & said that it was 'very good'. I'm happy with that overall grade & comment. The event was very even from top to bottom. Probably trailing only WrestleMania 14 as the most even WrestleMania of all time. All matches received pass grades & were definitely watchable. While the Michaels vs Jericho match was excellent, it probably failed to live up to the 'match of the nights' from previous WrestleManias. Predictability also hurt this event a little, as nothing really shocking happened. Hell, if I had to pick one thing that genuinely astounded me from the night, it would probably be Brock Lesnar's botched shooting star press. Overall though, a very entertaining watch. The WWE have delivered on pay-per-view once more.
