DVD Reviews of Ultimate Stretch Yoga Workout - ALL LEVELS - (NOW WITH THE MATRIX!) Ana Brett, Ravi SinghDVD Review: Stretch Your Body AND Your Mind..! Summary: 4 Stars Like many others, I came across Ana Brett and Ravi Singh by surfing Amazon for new workout DVDs. I had been looking for something gentler - yet still challenging and effective enough to be called fitness - to do in between my much more aggressive cardio/weight training workouts. Amazon recommended them, and I was impressed by the loyal fan following that the DVDs had. I decided to give one a try, and as I was still worried that it would be a little too New Age-y and "out there" for me, I decided to play it safe and chose "Ultimate Stretch Workout." My reasoning was that even if I disliked the whole "enlightenment" thing, I would still get good use out of it as a stretching DVD.
I am happy to say that not only did I greatly enjoy this DVD, but I will be purchasing others in the future. This is something new for me...and I like it!
I of coarse have done yoga before, and even own a few DVDs , which apparently are all Hatha yoga (never knew there were different types!), as opposed to this branch, which is kundalini. Also, my previous DVDs are pretty athletically oriented, with the instructors' comments to "relax" and "let go" as spiritual as it gets.
I initially kind of laughed when I began USW, as I was sooo unfamiliar with chanting foreign terminology. I was even more caught off-guard by how much movement is in this yoga form. Wheras my other yoga DVDs took me from static pose to static pose, this DVD had me twisting my waist and rocking (though of coarse there are still static poses here also). But I kept an open mind, and by the end of the hour-long DVD, I not only felt great physically, but great mentally, like I could take on anything and nothing could get in my way. And without caffeine!
This DVD is wonderful because it is both a physical fitness DVD and a mind fitness DVD. It reminds you that you are a spiritual being, and this program places emphasis on not only letting your stress melt away, but opening yourself to become better, more purposeful and having nerves of steel. At the end of this DVD, I feel a unique calm, while also ready to take on some formidable task, if that makes any sense at all! :-)
I also enjoy the physical aspect of this stretching because the intensity level varies throughout the program. One minute you're moving a good deal and heating your body up, the next you're breathing deeply and calmly and could easily fall into sleep. You also hold poses while doing the Breath of Fire, which makes the poses a little more difficult. (I am still working on holding the Wheel position - basically a backbend - while doing Breath of Fire. Tough!)
Though I now love Ana & Ravi, I will not stop worshipping at the temple of The Firm during this lifetime! I like to keep my body sculpted in a way that only harder cardio and resistance training can do. And hey, sometimes I just like hopping around , swinging weights until I drop. But I do plan on complementing my cardio-strength workouts with more of these wonderful DVDs.
Sat Nam! ;-)
DVD Review: ultimate stretch Summary: 5 Starsgreat deep stretching in this video. helps you remember to breath strongly throughout the workout. its a different take on yoga if you are used to astanga yoga, but i recommend for a change up in your regular routine of sun salutations.
DVD Review: Seriously I think I have grown an inch! Summary: 5 StarsI had injured my foot and was barely able to walk and this DVD not only kept me feeling fit, flexible, and strong while I healed, but I am sure it made me heal twice as fast as I normally would with this type of injury. It also, I am sure has made me taller! This is not your typical yoga practice, you will do different stretches then you have probably experienced before and you will most likely discover, as I did, a new suppleness you never knew you had! The exercises flow, the music uplifts, and as I said, I feel 6 feet tall when I am through! I noticed another reviewer mentioned chanting. There is an opening chant that is less then 30 seconds. There is not any more chanting or mantra until the beautiful song at the end sung by Wah with Ana. This closing song makes my heart soar and makes me smile for hours after. Don't be put off by someone saying it is not suitable for Christians because of this beautiful song. I am Catholic and just because a beautiful, uplifting mantra is sung in another language....it's just too silly to address! Whatever makes your heart open and helps you feel good about yourself is what matters in this life!
DVD Review: Not an Ultimate stretch, not Christian friendly Summary: 1 StarsFor those Christians out there trying to stay away from the chanting and singing-meditation stuff... this is not the DVD for you. It starts and ends with long sections of chanting and singing. (I respect it but would rather not have it. I like DVDs that ask for QUIET meditation. This one has you chant along and at the end has this singalong section- thank goodness for fast forwarding)
That actually was not my biggest issue with the DVD. There is not enough stretching content for me. The DVD didn't address many parts of the body...no open leg stretching for the inner thighs and hamstrings, very little shoulder and upper back stretching, little to no stretching of the quads and no side angle poses at all.
Ultimate stretch??!??!! I think not
on one positive note: the female doing all the poses...she is really strong and I can tell she has been doing yoga for a loooong time. not to mention very pretty.
DVD Review: Finally A Fun Stretching Yoga Workout! Summary: 5 StarsI usually skip stretching because it bores me to death. I recently bought some of the Ana Brett & Ravi Singh DVD's because I'm turning 50 this year and I want to get in the best shape of my life. I decided stretching should be part of my routine as well. The rest of their DVD's I've tried were so much fun, I hoped that they had made stretching fun and I was right. These are not your same old workout/yoga stretches. There are stretches I've never seen done before and they actually work! I like that it's also a workout so I can do it and not feel I have to add to it to get some muscle burn (thighs etc.). I swear my legs and waist look longer after this one and I feel like I'm walking more lightly on this earth!
