DVD Reviews of Tiger - The Authorized DVD Collection

DVD Review: Great for Tiger Fans
Summary: 4 Stars

This is not a 5 star product, unfortunately. I love watching Tiger each week, but this DVD collection could have been a lot better, given what he has done in his career. There are good gems about how he was raised, and how he gets into the zone while playing, but there is a lot of "fluff" considering the person they are talking about. By fluff, I mean praise for Tiger Woods instead of good content. They could have done a lot more in the way of teaching golfers how to get better. It's more of a documentary and bio than anything that will improve your game a ton.

At $9 used, its worth it for any true Tiger fan, but don't pay much more for it.

DVD Review: "Average"
Summary: 3 Stars

This wasn't as good as I had expected. These DVDS started very slow and never picked up. The bonus features were very cool.

DVD Review: The Ultimate Collection
Summary: 5 Stars

For true Tiger fans this is the ultimate collection, especially since Tiger Woods has been very private about his personal life. In this set he talks about his family and his thoughts and feelings during his childhood and teen years and also shows the fun side of his personality which we rarely see on the golf course. The interviews are a very important part of this collection and the bonus features are the icing on the cake, but if you are mostly interested in actual golf footage, then buy the DVDs of his major wins, but if you want to see the personal side of Tiger this is the Collection to have.

Summary: 2 Stars

Really disappointed in this set. Far too much fluff and not enough substance here. Was looking forward to the clinic, but there was nothing there of exception. You can find most of this footage on the Channel. My advice? If you must see this: Rent don't buy. Not worth $50, and probably not worth half as much used.

DVD Review: the King of Golf
Summary: 5 Stars

Tiger woods has truly made me appreciate golf far more than I ever did before. He truly is One of a Kind. He has already changed the game&He up the Ante. He has Won 8 Majors&shows no signs of Slowing down. Props to the Brother for doing His Thing. this is just the start when his career is over He will be Called the Greatest Ever.

Description of Tiger - The Authorized DVD Collection

For the first time ever, Tiger Woods opens the door to his astonishing life in golf -- from the promise of a child prodigy to the most dominant force in the history of sport. TIGER: THE AUTHORIZED DVD COLLECTION chronicles a story of unparalleled ambition, dedication, and success woven with personal interviews and previously unseen photographs, film and video archives. In this spectacular 3-disc set narrated by Laurence Fishburne, Tiger gives an exclusive account of his quest for golf's highest honors and offers a first-hand look at what it takes to be the very best. It's a rare opportunity to take a walk down the fairway with one the most influential athletes of all time.
Tiger: The Authorized DVD Collection is the real deal: a comprehensive three-part biography of the world's most famous golfer, narrated by Laurence Fishburne and anchored by interviews with Woods himself, his father and mother, and others. The first part, "Tiger's Prowl: His Life" (85 minutes), summarizes his early life, with home movies of him swinging a club as a toddler, his 1975 TV appearance with Bob Hope on The Mike Douglas Show, his U.S. Juniors and U.S. Amateur championships, his time at Stanford, and discussion of his multiracial heritage and how he got his nickname. The second part, "Tiger's Prey: His Majors" (75 minutes) is the best, with less time devoted to talking-head interviews and more to golf footage. From his first major win at the 1997 Masters to the 2002 U.S. Open at Bethpage Black, Woods either dominates the field by several strokes or shows his steely will to win, such as when he outlasts the surprising Bob May at the 2000 PGA Championship. But it hasn't all been easy for Tiger, and the segment also covers his struggles in 2004, his second straight year without winning a major tournament. The last part, "Tiger's Prints: His Legacy" (65 minutes), might seem premature considering Woods was still under 30 at the time of this 2004 documentary, but there's no doubt that he has already had a major impact on the game, inspiring a new generation of players, convincing the current generation of the need to raise their games to compete, and appealing to an entirely new demographic. Among the other interviewees are legend Jack Nicklaus, friend and fellow pro Mark O'Meara, caddie Steve Williams (but no Fluff Cowan), deposed swing coach Butch Harmon, sportscaster Bob Costas, other-sport superstars Michael Jordan, Wayne Gretzky, and Charles Barkley, and, for some reason, pop singer Celine Dion.

At 3 hours and 45 minutes, the biography is ungenerously spread over three discs, but there's also an hour of bonus features (most entertaining is a montage of Woods's greatest shots; most substantial is a 24-minute clinic in which he demonstrates his game before an audience), as well as some text features. Tiger: The Authorized DVD Collection is by no means perfect--it needs more golf action, and only rabid fans would watch all the interviews more than once. But in terms of comprehensiveness and the level of Woods's participation, it certainly dwarfs the various video biographies (and TV biopic) that have sprung up ever since that 1997 weekend at Augusta captivated the world. --David Horiuchi
