The Trap, along with The Century of the Self, and The Power of Nightmares, are three must see documentaries in order to understand de basic ideological layers that hold our time, that have formatted the way we consume, the way we perceive terrorism and especially, in The Trap, our idea of freedom as an individual. It has tons of information, and should be seen at least twice. It is harder to see than The century of the self, because the Century is based on information and communication which we can relate to immediately, being TV, radio, and newspaper consumers. The Trap goes deeper: how was the knitting done, of this cobweb we now call freedom, and where this system may lead us to. Adam Curtis documentaries are the red pill in The Matrix. You have to have a certain courage to go in there, because it questions things we take for granted and were actually manufactured.DVD Review: A must watch

This Documentary does "Conflict" a bit between his "The power of Nightmares" DVD. Both are MUCH WATCH IMHO anyways.
Adam Curtis's Century of the Self DVD. OMG. That one is still giving me nightmares. Knowing that Propaganda/PR has been monkeying around with the American Subconscious since 1907? Well.. scares the hell out of me.
This DVD "The Trap" is a simple recording right off of the TV. The 2nd Documentary you hear the BBC announcer talk about the next upcoming program. But you're not buying a high quality movie.. you are buying a mind opening documentary.
I really love all the old footage of computers. Guys crawling around under the raised floors. (Because back in the old days they had to cool the floor as they over clocked the TUBES) LOL..
I might not 100% concur with MR. Curtis's conclusions on this one. But it does give me a lot to think about. For sure "A Century of the Self" DVD was his best to date.
I'm happy that a "Few" Americans have discovered Adam Curtis. His 3rd acts nearly always need "Work". But his Documentary's are some of the best I've ever seen. Of course he should get the Master Tapes from BBC and make a proper DVD burn. But hey.. it is the content right?

DVD Review: A MUST WATCH a quality documentary!

This 3 part series is probably one the most comprehensive crtitiques to neo liberalism.
It protrays quite clearly just how a lot of ideas designed to make people "free" actually made them slaves to something else.
If you want to understand the basic ideas that made the sub prime crisis prossible have a look at this documentary. It was recorded before the subprime crisis which makes it even more relevant.
THis is really a summative of many years of research by Adam Curtis into the subject matter and it shows trough the quality of the script and the research. I had the pleasure of watching the original episodes in the BBC when they were fisrt aired and was glued to the TV for the whole 3 episodes.
The most recomended are the first and last episode.

Explores how a simplistic model of human beings as self-seeking, almost robotic, creatures led to today's dysfunctional idea of freedom. In three parts. The first explains the baleful influence of game theory on economics and international relations. Game theory says humans are basically suspicious, selfish and constantly strategizing. It was created by a man who suffered from paranoid schizophrenia... Part two is about some ill effects of game theory / free market theory on society, for instance with over-the-counter drugs, bureaucracies and schools. Part three, "We Will Force You To Be Free," starts with the concepts of negative and positive freedom, that is freedom from and freedom to. It goes on to how the rhetoric of freedom has been used by revolutionaries to justify violence, by the neo-cons to justify "shock therapy" in Eastern Europe and more recently in Iraq, with horrific consequences.
