DVD Review: The Best Mini Series Ever!!

I watched this when it first aired in 1983. I was 19. I loved it then and I love it now. Years after it first aired I purchased a 4 VHS tape collection. I'm not usually a reader of romance novels, nor a mini series watcher, but this was epic. I have lost count of how many times I've watched it, but I simply love it and will forever. It was beautifully done and no one does soundtracks like Henry Mancini. I highly recommend it.

The Thorn Birds movie has been my favorite movie since I was a very young girl. It illustrates how strong love can be and the pain that this love can bring. It also shows the irony of life and the things one can and cannot change. I love this movie and can watch it over and over and it still can bring tears to my eyes. I even named my home based business after this movie. It is wonderful that I finally added this movie to my private collection.

I bought The Thorn Birds as I loved it years ago. I watched the first dvd and thoroughly enjoyed it. I came to play the 2nd one and am I missing something? There seems to be a huge chunk missing - Ralph training for a cardinal, Meggie meeting the sheep farmer, the fire. It opened up with Ralph becoming ordained and Meggie getting married! Where's the missing chunk??

Adapted from the bestselling novel by Colleen McCullough, the production stars Richard Chamberlain as a Catholic priest named Ralph de Bricassart, whose life in Australia between 1920 and 1962 is one long torment as he pines for his lover, Meggie Cleary (Rachel Ward), while seeking advancement in his clergyman career. The passion and the guilt make for compelling drama, but a stellar cast of supporting players adds muscle to the proceedings: Barbara Stanwyck (who won an Emmy for her work as Meggie's tough aunt), Jean Simmons, Richard Kiley, Christopher Plummer, Bryan Brown, and Mare Winningham. Chamberlain, who was something of the king of the miniseries form at the time, is very good in the lead, as is the often-underrated Ward.
