DVD Reviews of The Simpsons Movie (Widescreen Edition)DVD Review: The Simpsons movie Summary: 5 StarsWhat can I say! It's the Simpsons. I think having a movie after the many years was good. I think people did not like the move (some, I should say didn't) True Simpsons fans...enjoy! Lots of fun and turmoil and action and of course...Homer J Simpson and his bungling. Okay for the kids, except for a swear word or two, so cover their ears for a moment or two. Lots of fun and laughs. I bought it and am glad to add it to my collection!
DVD Review: Put the Simpsons to sleep Summary: 1 StarsI watched the Simpsons faithfully from 1990-2005. I was fully aware of the decline of the show but the movie was just so awful that I read a book to keep me entertained until it ended (I was determined to make it to the end). Bart's nude skateboard ride was completely out of place and utterly unnecessary. The humor was not the usual humor of the Simpsons--part of the reason that I love the series is the numerous old historical jokes about Grover Cleveland or old film strips--it was more similar to later episodes of South Park: feces and a subtle political undertone. There has been so little toilet humor in the Simpsons that I wonder why the writers thought it would be entertaining now. Many episodes used to have wonderful parodies of older films (Citizen Kane, A Clockwork Orange, The Godfather) or were genuinely touching. None of that occurred here.
Normally, I have something redeeming to say about most movies or books, but for this I have none.
The series needs to end before it gets worse. An episode I saw a few weeks back had Homer fantasizing about Marge making out with Lindsey Nagele. Patty has become a lesbian. Mr. Burns is no longer the ruthless villain he once was. Smithers no longer has a cloak of ambiguity. Lisa rarely acts like a little girl any longer. "Gill" is a poor substitute for Phil Hartman's Lionel Hutz (OK, Hartman was killed, but something else could have been done). Save the Simpsons from the final indignity of becoming a bad, redundant show. Euthanize it. Get some of the original writers back for a short season and end it.
DVD Review: Good Qulity Summary: 5 StarsMovie came still wrapped in it's original packaging. Very cheap and good shipping. Well worth it.
DVD Review: The Movie Review Kid: The Simpsons Movie Summary: 5 StarsBefore I say anything, the product description of this movie is incorrect. The DVD came out on 12/16/07, Pea Brain! Anyway,hi! I'm the same kid who reviewed The Powerpuff Girls Movie. So now I'm back, in: The Movie Review Kid Returns! Anyway like many others, this movie is based on the TV show. Now I don't watch many PG-13 films (and if you think I watch 'R' rated movies, you should head to the mental hospital), but considering that this is the movie of one of my favorite cartoon shows, I would be as dumb as the Devil NOT to see it. However, some parts of The Simpsons Movie were freakishly gross, such as when Bart was skateboarding naked and the whole Medicine Woman thing. And let's not forget the profanity. Where would The Simpsons be without profanity? They'd probably still be an adult-oriented show, what with all the suggestive themes and such. But just push 'em off a cliff and you got a perfect Simpsons Movie. I have this movie on DVD and I've watched it a million times. Literally, I did. I watched it 3 times on Monday. Tuesday I had no school so I watched it 6 times. The rest of the week I watched it a heckuva lotta other times. So if I, a simple kid liked this movie so much that I would watch it a million times then I'm sure the least you could do is watch it one time. And you better, 'cause here I am typin' my butt off on some dang computer so you know about this stupid movie. And if you don't I'm gonna get 'cha.
DVD Review: 3 stars out of 4 Summary: 4 StarsThe Bottom Line:
The Simpsons Movie may not represent the show at its mid-90s zenith, but the writing is infinitely better than the stale retreads that currently pass for episodes and we should be thankful for that; a consistently-funny piece of cinema with more than a few clever zingers, it's recommended to fans and non-fans alike.
Description of The Simpsons Movie (Widescreen Edition)Homer accidentally causes an environmental catastrophe which could doom Springfield forever. Homer now must save the city and rescue his family. Springfield's usual characters and new favorites all turn up in the first ever movie length version of the hit TV show 18 years in the making.System Requirements:Run time: 87 minutesFormat: DVD MOVIE Genre:?COMEDY/TEEN Rating:?PG-13 UPC:?024543484271 Manufacturer No:?2248427 The Simpsons had already ruled TV land for many years by the time they finally attempted to conquer the movie world as well. It was never any big secret that a Simpsons movie was in the works: Fox registered the domain name "Simpsonsmovie.com" in 1997, a full nine years before the film was finally greenlighted. When creator/producer Matt Groening's creation finally made it to the big screen in 2007, it only turned out to be the biggest hit of the summer, raking in over $100 million gross in box-office receipts in its first week, before heading on to do over $500 million worldwide, proving that the best joke in the movie was actually played on the audience: "Why pay for something when you can see it for free?" asks Homer at the movie's start. Naturally, all the trouble starts with him. When he adopts a pig ("Sir Oinks-A-Lot") destined for Krusty's slaughterhouse, it triggers an environmental catastrophe, forcing the government to seal Springfield into a dome and destroy the city. While the family manages to escape and flee to Alaska, they eventually decide to return and help save the city in more-or-less classic Simpson fashion. As Homer's joke about the audience shows, Groening and producer Al Jean are keenly aware that their franchise is first and foremost a TV show. Maybe a little too aware, as the movie fails to ever rise above anything more than an extended episode, and not even one of its best episodes at that. True, there are plenty of good jokes; the animation has been kicked up a notch to be particularly sharp and detailed; and there are some truly memorable moments such as Bart's nude skateboard ride and the "Spider-Pig" song. But when the film finally materialized, the payoff for long years of anticipation turned out to be small as the movie failed to live up to its potential; it's amusing but not truly funny. The Simpsons Movie leaves the impression that maybe the show's writers and producers had already spent their best ideas on the best years of the TV show. Had it been made years earlier. well, we can only wonder what could have been. --Daniel Vancini Get to Know The Simpsons "Oh, so they have internet on computers now!" -- Homer Simpson | "I'd like to visit that Long Island Place, if only it were real." -- Marge Simpson (drinking a Long Island Iced Tea) | "Aren't we forgetting the true meaning of Christmas?
