I bought this for my nephew 6 yrs. He is a horse fanatic! Both he and his 8 year old sister enjoyed it. The horse fighting scenes were not overly disturbing to them. I myself enjoyed the beautiful scenery and footage of the horses was awesome. I felt though that the acting was left to be desired. I love Russel Crow and that's why I bought The Silver Stallion in the first place. I'm still scratching my head wondering how in the world he was talked into doing this sorry, no-count flick.
If you know horses and horse people you'll hate this movie. Nothing remotely resembling real horse behavior,training or care for that matter is apparent in this movie. Horses don't act or do the things that this movie portrays.
There is little to no, meaningful dialog throughout the movie. Even the Silver stallion isn't . . he's a Palamino. Pretty common looking horses throughout the heard scenes. All the way around, nothing special to say about this sadly portrayed movie about one of God's most magnificent, noble creatures. The Silver Stallion

Love the Man from Snowy River so checked this movie out. But is not comparable at all! Would not watch ever again, not even for the scenary.

Deep in the heart of the highest and most remote mountain range are the home and hiding place for the legendary Silver Stallion. The Ranchers tell stories about the silver ghost horse that has led them on wild chases half seen but never captured. For one man (Russell Crown) the desire to capture the silver stallion has become an obsession and he will stop at nothing to tame the wild beast. Told through the words of a mother as she writes page-py-page entertainment for her horse- crazy daughter. The beautiful mare, Bell-Bell, gives birth to Thowra, an exceptional cream-colored foal, with a mane and tail that gleam silver in the moonlight. We see Thowra grow up through several seasons. Winter has its hardships; the herds of horses find survival difficult in the snow-packed mountains. But summer may be even more dangerous, for that's when men return to the high country to try to catch the brumbies and cruelly break them of their wildness. For one man (called simply "The Man" in Elyne's story), capturing Thowra, now king of all the brumbies, becomes an obsession. The Man is played by Russell Crowe, whose usual fine acting is enhanced here by impressive horsemanship.
