DVD Review: Classic

This film deserves a place in every home library. Shawshank Redemption (1994) was shot as a period piece, so it has never aged. The prison break story is timeless, and the theme of friendship will always appeal to audiences.

The script, direction, and acting is great. The entire cast is good, but Tim Robbins and Morgan Freeman make their characters so appealing that you can't help but root for them. Freeman can communicate more in a single facial expression than most actors can in a soliloquy.

I won't go into a long review. 'The Shawshank Redemption' is in my opinion one of the best movies ever. My wife and I own the DVD, plan to purchase the Blue-ray version, and if we are surfing channels on Direct TV and we come across this movie we will watch it. It doesn't matter if we catch it from the beginning, or somewhere in the middle. Just a perfect movie.

This movie was based on a Stephen King story. It was a beautifully written story that thankfully translated beautifully to the big screen. (Most Stephen King stories don't fare so well in film version.) This was a film with incredible performances by Tim Robbins and the wonderful Morgan Freeman, the supporting cast was great. The movie remained true to the book which was important to the story. It was a great film.

Shawshank redemption is one of my most favorite movies ever. The story is excellent,the action is incredible, and the ending is superb. This movie can be watched over again and does not bore you. (I have watched it several times on VHS and recently purchased the dvd. GREAT MOVIE!!!!!!

The SR is one of my favorite movies. The tale that this movie weaves about justice, injustice, redemption and just deserts was done marvelously. Everytime me and my husband come across it while channel surfing we usually watch until the end again and again. Morgan Freeman's voice draws you in and captivates you. And this was Tim Robbins best performance ever. It is the best prison drama ever made.

When this popular prison drama was released in 1994, some critics complained that the movie was too long (142?minutes) to sustain its story. Those complaints miss the point, because the passage of time is crucial to this story about patience, the squeaky wheels of justice, and the growth of a life-long friendship. Only when the film reaches its final, emotionally satisfying scene do you fully understand why writer-director Frank Darabont (adapting a novella by Stephen King) allows the story to unfold at its necessary pace, and the effect is dramatically rewarding.
