DVD Reviews of The Scarlet PimpernelDVD Review: what a movie! Summary: 5 StarsI watched this movie til I had it memorized! Best movie I've seen in a long time
DVD Review: finally after all these years of looking Summary: 5 StarsFor years I have tried unsuccessfully to find this movie. I graduated from highschool in 1987 and we watched this during one of my high school years in English class. We read the book, then watched the movie and I absolutely fell in love with this movie and never forgot it. I found the book that was aired on the Hallmark Channel, with pictures from the movie in it. I just loved Anthony Andrews and would dream that I was Jane Seymour. Even when I was in my 20's I was dating a guy and we watched and recorded it at his parent's house. The sad thing is that we broke up and the recorded copy was left at his parents house and I never got it back. I contacted Hallmark to see if they had it available, but because
it was not a Hallmark Hall of Fame movie they did not have a copy.
I kept searching over the years, video stores, my movie club, even
on regular t.v. NO luck. Then I had an idea to search on Amazon and
here it is, I am so excited, after more than twenty years I will finally
have it to watch over and over again. I agree, this movie should be on
t.v. more and made into a motion film picture. This movie is my all time
favorites of my favorites! I love the acting, the romance, the suspense,
the history of it, the wardrobes and the love between Sir Percy and
Marguerite and much more than I have room to write.
DVD Review: The Scarlet Pimpernel Summary: 4 StarsThis is a great love story and a lot like a "Robin Hood" scenario story. Actually one time that the movie is more entertaining than the book. Intriguing and draws you in.
DVD Review: Great Summary: 4 StarsI purchased this as a gift. The recipient was very happy. Thank you.
DVD Review: The Scarlet Pimpernel with Jane Seymour Summary: 5 StarsFabulous movie . . . there's not a better version of this movie available! This one is full of wit, humor, great costumes and disguises, and tells a good tale in a classy way with Jane Seymour and Anthony Andrews as the main characters. They are wonderful in their roles. Even if you're not normally a fan of this type of historical adventure, this one is a must see/must own movie! Its been a favorite of mine for 20 years!!! :) I highly recommend this movie! Its a fabulous escape from reality for a few hours! You won't be disappointed!!!!!
Description of The Scarlet PimpernelThe swashbuckling classic comes to rip-roaring life in this lavish production, filled with breathless romance and derring-do! In the eyes of high society, Sir Percy Blakeney (Brideshead Revisited's Anthony Andrews) is a typical fop, surrounded by adoring ladies and clueless gentry. However, he is also a master of disguise and bears an infamous secret identity: the Scarlet Pimpernel, dashing and fearless rescuer of victims of the French Revolution! Sir Percy also falls head over heels for the beautiful Marguerite (Somewhere in Time's Jane Seymour), who is also wooed by the villainous Paul Chauvelin (The Lord of the Rings' Sir Ian McKellan), Robespierre's Chief Agent for the Committee of National Security. Suave, stylish, and utterly irresistible, this dazzling adventure is sure to capture your heart! It's tough trying to beat the 1934 version of the popular adventure-romance story, starring Leslie Howard as the 18th-century British hero who poses as a fop in London society but runs a secret mission to rescue the doomed in Robespierre's Paris. But this 1982 television version, starring Anthony Andrews (Under the Volcano) as the Pimpernel and Jane Seymour as his beloved but estranged wife, is quite a treat. Andrews and Seymour expertly capture the essence of a relationship suffering from misunderstandings and elusive passion, and there is plenty of crackle to the action sequences. Clive Donner (What's New, Pussycat?) brings some strong cinematic qualities to this television presentation. --Tom Keogh
