DVD Review: Love the show - hate the ads
Summary: 5 Stars
First: well authored DVD, points for style. love the show, cant wait for season 3 to come out on DVD. if you are debating on buying this, think about how hard you want to track this down in the future when you miss it. (examples of this: the state, exit 57, which if they had been released on DVD i would've bought).
Second: I am sick of the mandatory FBI/anti-piracy warnings and the stream of ads before getting to the title menu. people who buy legal copies shouldn't be punished with this. just go to the title menu, and let consumers choose to watch the ads. and if people still don't know that piracy is bad, wasting everyone else's time won't make a dif.

There are two types of people who find Sarah Silverman funny; those who think her "Sarah" character says everything they want to; and those who laugh at the absurdity and pure discomfort of anyone being that off-the-cuff.
That being said, this (along with It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia) is the funniest show on TV, hands down.

I'm not sure whether Sarah Silverman is completely without taste, or has a sort of perverse anti-taste. Sometimes juvenile and offensive, frequently brilliant, usually hilarious, it's hard to know what to say about this program.
The show leaves me disturbed. Disturbed at US America, that it's taste has fallen so low. Disturbed about my wife, who loves it. And disturbed about me, because I like it so much and wouldn't miss an episode. There's definitely something wrong with me for enjoying this stuff so much.
If in doubt after reading the reviews, catch an episode on TV, or rent a disc or something, because I don't like hate mail saying 'You talked me into wasting money on this fertilizer? I hate you, I hate you, die, die, die!!' But if you like it, you'll probably like it an awful lot. Pun intentional.
DVD Review: Unique blend of comedy...

From the comedy of Sarah Silverman comes this Comedy-Central series. This Season 1 DVD contains a great mix of dark comedy, silly/goofy humor, sarcasm, satire, toilet humor, and clever quips. The disadvantage of the Season 1 DVD is there are only 6 episodes on it. Since this is currently the only season available it has left me craving for more, so I simply re-watch these 6 episodes. Can't wait for the release of Season 2.

An offensive, filthy-mouthed treasure.Crass, narcissistic, and utterly oblivious to the pain, suffering, or even the reality of anyone outside of herself, Sarah Silverman--a character played by sly hipster comedienne Sarah Silverman (the standout in a crowded field of comedians in The Aristocrats)--tops the characters of Seinfeld for dizzying comic insufferability. In the six episodes of The Sarah Silverman Program, Silverman goes on a cough-syrup-hallucination-fueled car ride, takes in a homeless man to prove her humanitarianism, founds an AIDS charity on the possibility that she might have AIDS, shepherds a little girl (the outstanding Laura Marano, Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader?) through the child beauty pageant that she lost in her own youth, explores lesbianism, and goes out for batteries. Every scenario, simple or absurd, is crammed thick with deranged (yet uncomfortably real) behavior and over-the-top turns (such as when Silverman, having had an unfortunate moment while trying to pass gas, has her prayers answered by God...with whom she then has a one-night stand). The supporting cast (including Silverman's sister Laura Silverman, Jay Johnston, Steve Agee, and Brian Posehn) all have their own appalling moments, which they execute with aplomb. Silverman's humor offends some while inspiring rabid devotion in others. It's best to know what you're getting into before you watch it; jokes about abortion, homosexuality, terminal illness, and scatology abound, delivered with unrepentant enthusiasm and outright joy. Silverman, for all her taboo-breaking, just wants to make the world a funnier place. For her fans, she has succeeded. The Sarah Silverman Program - Season One has some splendid extras, including an abundance of extra songs, karaoke sing-alongs, alternate versions of the show's intro, and garrulous commentaries. --Bret Fetzer
