DVD Reviews of The Return of the Pink PantherDVD Review: Great comedy relief Summary: 5 Stars
The return of the Pink Panther is the best comedy in the series. Humor revolves around French inspector Jacques Clouseau.
Clouseau failed to stop a bank heist. Clouseau had engaged himself into an argument with a blind man, the lookout for the bank heist; who distracted Clouseau while the inspector insisted the man have "proper license" to beg on the street. The blind man tells Clouseau, he is not a business man but the monkey is the business man; the blind man plays the music and the monkey collects the money; the blind man does not tell the monkey how to spend his money and the monkey does not tell the man what music to play.
The bank heist gives the Police Chief a chance to verbally yell at Clouseau. In a moment of confusion mistaking a cigarette lighter in the form of a firearm, Dreyfus discharges a real weapon while attempting to ignite a cigarette in his mouth and loses part of his nose. Dreyfus wife may not like him either considering the problems associated with his new cigarette liter. The Police chief will become increasingly hostile and insanely murderous, towards Clouseau, who is innocently oblivious.
The Pink Panther diamond is a symbol of the Lugush, North African, National Museum and mysterious knights/secret police vowed in the protection of the national gem protecting the diamond. A signature of the phantom has been left behind and the diamond stolen. However, previously, in the story, Mr Douvier fears the Gannat transaction is in jeopardy. Douvier wants too demonstrate for NY, he still is in control. A demonstration of his control is needed. NY will restore confidence, if Mr Douvier can get rid of the pesky Clouseau, who has managed to escape all the Europes assassination attempts and at the same time foil numerous covert operations with serendipitous luck. The inspector deduces the Douvier is the French connection. The Gannat transaction is on and the Inspector must stop it. The French Gannat transaction is a million franc heron sale by an American buyer. The Gannat transaction represents corruption political manipulations of the Lugush underworld. The Lugush secret police are using the diamond theft as a means to eliminate their political enemies. The Gannat Transaction and the Pink Panther diamond are not connected in the story.
Clouseau thinks the bomber is a man dressed as a woman, the man Claude Russo. Claude bombs inspector Clouseau's apartment. Russo was probably hired too carryout the Gannat demonstration. Russo fades from the picture after Clouseau is thought to be in a fatal accident.
The Inspector escapes persistent assassination attempts because he was thought dead by the public. A stroke of luck for the inspector occurs as a traveling transvestite steals the inspector's clothes and car and the car is filmed in spectacular accident, and the media captures images of an exploding car on TV. A royal funeral is held, French detectives assigned to the murder, and medals of valor sited for the inspector. Cato opens a Chinese brothel house. When the inspector suddenly returns home and surprises Cato, he strongly chastises Cato and Cato tells the inspector, he had to keep busy and the brothel could net him 300-400k a year. The inspector calls Cato a "greedy yellow pimp".
Lady Lytton exists to steal and the Pink Panther diamond in Rome is too big a prize to let go. The Pink Panther diamond is stolen and the police suspect Sir Charles Lytton, the mysterious phantom, as the master of the caper. Sir Charles will have an alibi but will be discomforted by the frame. Claudine enjoys taunting the inspector and will lead inspector Clouseau on a wild chase round Europe through many beautiful landscape scenes, probably just for fun in the dance of a thief. Did Lady Lytton outsmarting the French police and Lugush secret police? No, Drefus, Charle Lytton, Coloniel Sharkey, and Clouseau were onto her caper, making the chase nothing more than a comedy relief.
Clouseau will impersonate a housekeeper and search Lady Lyttons room for clues. Clouseau must hide in the Steam room, slide around, replace multiple times a light bulb that ejects into the air, and manage a vaccuum with extreme suction.
The inspector disguised as a phone repairman arrives at Lytton residence. The inspector fumbles around with the phone and manages to over hear a conversation between Lady Lttyon and another fellow. Lady Lytton plants information in a phone call that leads the inspector to Gstaad. The inspector's brakes are sabotaged and he stops abruptly in a swimming pool.
At Gstaad, Switzerland and on the French Riviera, Dreyfus arrives and is revealed as the assassin desiring too kill Clouseau. Sir Charles Lytton reads about the theft and realises that he's been framed. Sir Charles Lytton goes to Lugush to find out more and manages to escape. Sir Charle Lytton and the inspector arrive at Gstaad about the same time.
Colonel Sharky of the Lugash Secret Police corners the Lyttons in their room and had planned too take possession of the Pink Panther, but Dreyfus accidently shoots Colonel Sharkey from a sniper position. Inspector Clouseau, escaped death by bending over to check his fly, at the last second. Dreyfus is sent to an mentally insane ward. The inspector returns the Pink Panther diamond to the National museum and becomes Chief of Police.
