I'm a big fan of the show and am glad to have it on dvd since MTV has stopped showing reruns in recent years. The special features (including the 20 minute commentary track) seem to be an after thought. The show deserves better - if you can get the episodes by some other means, I'd recommend that over spending money on this set.DVD Review: The start of Reality TV

This DVD brought back so many memories for me. I was just 12 when the Real World debuted on MTV and what was the start of reality tv as we know it. The first season will always be one of my favorites because it WAS the first season and for that reason, this cast seemed more "real" than other real world casts.
I really enjoyed watching this DVD and all of the special features including the original real world. The only negative thing I have to say about it is the fact that they cut out the original music that was aired on television. There were some parts where I actually remember what song was playing during that moment.
I am glad I have the first season on DVD because now I get to watch it anytime I want since MTV does not show re-runs of these past seasons anymore.
I recommend The Real World: The Complete First Season to anyone who is not sure about buying it.

This is the first, and I think the best season of the show. The cast was interesting and had actual lives--they didn't go to the bars and get wasted every night, unlike current seasons.
I just really, really wish that this DVD had the *original* music included!!! Taking out the music really makes the show lose some of its resonance. I'd be willing to pay an extra $10 or $15 to get this DVD with the original soundtrack.

This show started the downfall of tv in america, the 1980's were a great time for tv, until this trash came and ruined MTV & TV in general paving way for the worst era of reality shows in history.
I Hated this show from the start, none of the reality shows were good, the acting is terrible, this is pathetic diposable junk (along with that crap band from seattle called nirvana aka nerdvana)
The Only good thing that kept this show alive is the death of Pedro Zambora, otherwise I Could care less about this them and I Could care about it now.
The Real World represent what's everything wrong with tv in general.
Reality shows should have stopped after rescue 911.
