DVD Reviews of The OdysseyDVD Review: Odyssey Summary: 5 Stars
Great movie about a man and his struggle with his God and his home.
DVD Review: Great DVD, but... Summary: 4 StarsI can't believe that in this day and age a DVD would be released without closed captionaing available. I picked this up for a class, and I have a deaf student who needs captioning. This really was an inconvenience and I could not show it since they couldn't be botheres to put captioning on the DVD.
DVD Review: Odyssey Summary: 4 StarsI highly recommend you wait for the Blu-ray version as the sellers here have an extremely ridiculous idea of inflating what was once a less than fifteen dollar DVD movie to the current price. This is a pretty decent Hallmark sword and sandal movie with Armand Assante. It follows the Homer tale without to much literary license. I have seen it several times on TV and I can easily rent it as well. That is the way it will stay until it comes out in Blu-ray probably this or next year. Are there people stupid enough to pay over one hundred and fifty dollars for this movie?

DVD Review: Fun to Watch Summary: 4 StarsThis movie was just so much fun to watch. It was originally made for TV, so when you watch it without commercials you're able to get the full effect of the story without interruptions. This is based on the story The Odyssey by Homer and it follows the story fairly well. Some of the adventures are left out, and some are unfortunate to be so, but the main part of the story of there so you don't feel they just did what they wanted with it.
The acting is very good for a TV movies, as are the special effects. They're not cheap looking which is something TV movies have a problem with sometimes. The costumes are good and the sets are too. You feel like you're with him traveling around the Mediterranean trying to find home.
The ending felt a little rushed to me though. I felt they could have spent a bit more time on that.
DVD Review: Where's the soundtrack? Summary: 4 StarsI loved this movie/mini series. I've watched it time and again. I've always wondered about the soundtrack..I just CANNOT find it anywhere. (There is a link on amazon music..waiting for the seller to respond if what he/she has is the real thing) If anyone knows where to get the soundtrack, pls do send me a mail.
Thanks
Chet
Description of The OdysseyAndrei Konchalovsky's expansive television mini-series production of Homer's epic poem gets off to clumsy start as he tries to squeeze the Trojan War into a mere half hour, but once the arrogant but honorable Odysseus (strikingly played by Armand Assante) and his loyal crew begin their doomed voyage home, this film turns into a fantastical adventure. Integrating often-stunning special effects with inventive art design, Konchalovsky achieves a beautiful look on a limited budget as he follows the 10-year ordeal of Odysseus from his battles with the Cyclops and the magical Circe (Bernadette Peters) to his secret homecoming and his confrontation with the treacherous Eurymachus (Eric Roberts). Isabella Rossellini appears as his spiritual guide, the goddess Athena, with Greta Scacchi as Odysseus's faithful wife and Vanessa Williams as the seductive Calypso. The rest of the cast includes Geraldine Chaplin, Jeroen Krabb?, Christopher Lee, and Irene Papas. The production was shot on location in and around the Mediterranean, making for a lush, lovely visual experience. --Sean Axmaker
