DVD Reviews of The Nun's StoryDVD Review: If you love Audrey, you'll love this movie Summary: 4 StarsI found this movie very entertaining in terms of watching Audrey Hepburn with her wide array of talent. It was also, what I felt, to be an accurate depiction of the life of a nun which was interesting to watch as well. If you are an Audrey fan, you'll like this performance.
DVD Review: An existential dilemma! Summary: 4 StarsNine years after Robert Bresson brought to the screen the formidable book of George Bernanos "Diary of a country priest" in 1950 - one of the supreme masterpieces of the cinema- no other filmmaker dared to make the same until Fred Zinnemann in 1959.
The always lovable and eternally reminded Audrey Hepburn brings to the screen with skill and taste the best selling novel. The life of a young girl since her convent days, her taking of the vows and her work in Africa. Peter Finch gave a terrific performance as non-religious doctor working in the Congo. The great Fred Zinnemann gets an en excellent job supported by an enviable cast.
DVD Review: DVD Summary: 5 StarsGreat movie from a one of the greats in my view. Really can't fault any of Audrey Hepburns movies. No matter what role she undertok she always gave it her best .
DVD Review: Nun's Story - Audrey Hepburn at her best. Summary: 5 StarsAudrey Hepburn's portrayal of Sister Luke in this 1950's classic is rivetting. Set in Belgium and South Africa just prior to WWII, the story of a gifted young women torn between her faith and family is the perfect vehicle to showcase Ms Hepburn at her dramatic best. Peter Finch turns in a sterling performance as Dr Moriatti, a brilliant surgeon working in the African Congo.
DVD Review: Everyone's Story Summary: 5 StarsThis movie is about a nun who tries very hard to make her vocation work. She was a better Religious than many of the so-called "living Rules" around her because she did more soul-searching. The story is a tragedy insofar as she was never able to reconcile her inability to be perfect with the many graces she was receiving by simply being, a lesson every Religious must learn in order to persevere.
It is really about all of us, our struggle to make sense of life. Sometimes we impose a certain order on it to manage it better, but we must have a deep faith for those times when that order goes awry. That is when we know what having faithy truly is. The secret is not to abandon the order and self-discipline that once served us so well, but to realize that, in itself, it is not enough and only makes sense if we have faith in God Himself. A modern parable that deals with the same issue is the play "Doubt," recently also made into a movie.

Description of The Nun's StoryStory of Gabrielle Van Der Mal, who gives up everything to become a nun, facing incredible odds in the Congo and then at the mother house in France at the outbreak of World War II. Fred Zinnemann's epic drama is a splendid showcase for Audrey Hepburn, who stars as the young nun Sister Luke, who is deeply spiritual yet conflicted about whether or not she can conform to convent life. Though the film is a mesmerizing--and quite leisurely--two and a half hours, its plot is fairly simple--young Gabrielle (Hepburn) enters the convent pledging her life to God, learns the disciplines associated with the life, receives her dream assignment of going to the Congo as a missionary nurse, and once there, is forced to face whether she is meant for the rigorous life of poverty, chastity, and most difficult of all, obedience. The film does a marvelous job of portraying the challenges of cloistered life without being either off-putting or overly romantic. And Hepburn, sometimes with only her eyes, communicates all the drive, faith, and conflict of a young woman so torn. --Anne Hurley
