DVD Reviews of The Nine Lives of Fritz the Cat

DVD Review: A VERY UNDERRATED SEQUEL! 8 OUT OF 10
Summary: 4 Stars

Oh come on! Why do people hate this sequel? Granted, yes it is not as good as the awesome original, but it's still a damn fine comedy and political satire. This is easily one of the most underrated animated films I've ever seen, and one of the most underrated film sequels as well.
WHAT IT'S ABOUT: It's now the 1970's, and Fritz is now unhappily married with a son, unemployed, and constantly stoned. He and his wife constantly argue over him not getting a job and using the welfare money to buy marijuana, as well as the fact the only thing he taught his son to do is masturbate. So while he's stoned and his wife is yelling at him, he begins to have various visions of past lives he's had and other situations ranging from being an assistant to Hitler, the 1930's, to having sex with a Puerto Rican girl after they both get high, having an encounter with an apparently homosexual Satan in a sewer, to having to go to the Black House to deliver a message (This film deals with racial tension like its predecessor, only in this scenario black people have split from the United States to start their own nation), to being an astronaut, and many more weird situations. But you know what? It's offensive and very entertaining.
MUSIC: Like the first film, the musical score fits it. While not as good as it's predecessor's music, it works just fine.
ACTING: Skip Hinnant reprises his role as Fritz, but other than that I did not recognize any of the other voice actors. Most of them did a fine job and added to this film's colorful style, but there were some actors who did not perform as well and did little to add value.
ACTION: As you can see, this film is not as offensive as its predecessor since it received an R-rating as opposed to the X-rated original. So that means less violence and less sexual content than the original. However, this is still a very dirty little film that still delivers the trademark offensive humor that the original gave us. It's also still a good political satire, though not as biting as the original's hard-edged style. This can be a bit slow at times since it seems to be more focused on stoner trips than an actual story in certain segments. The plot could have been more cohesive, because this film feels rough when transitioning between the story segments. However these are only minor flaws in a very entertaining film.
COMEDY: This film, like its predecessor is more funny than most modern comedies I've seen. This film is still really funny and very offensive, and also doesn't care about politically-correct nonsense. If only we had more films that felt like that.
OVERALL: Give this sequel a chance, people! It's actually pretty good, and while it can't compete with the original, it's still really entertaining and worth a look. Don't let children watch it, it's still not even close to appropriate.
THE GOOD: It's funny, vulgar, has interesting premise, good voice-acting, good music, and it's good satire.
THE BAD: The plot could use some cleaning up and some lackluster voice-acting.
