DVD Reviews of The Nightmare Before Christmas (2-Disc Collector's Edition + Digital Copy)DVD Review: Stunning quality Summary: 5 StarsA problem with the review section is that is does not differentiate among the many releases and formats of this movie. I have a VHS copy that I must have had for over a decade. Many of the reviews are for various DVD transfers. But the one I am reviewing is the Blu-ray version.
The quality and clarity of this presentation is stunning. I could not have imagined I'd be seeing the level of detail that is presented here. If I had to name a fault, it was so clear that it made me aware of just how much the models have improved since this movie was made. In newer movies such as Corpse Bride, there's an improved feeling of flow to the animation. In this one, characters such as Sally appear as cruder toys when seen with all the detail. But those details are all consistent with the intent of the production.
Once I got beyond the initial surprise of the Blu-ray transfer, I was able to enjoy the movie more than ever before. The contrasts between the sets for Christmastown and Halloweentown reveal the true artistry in a way that the limitations of DVD did not allow. The transfer shows off the true differences between stop motion and the best of computer animation in a way that leaves one with a feeling of awe.
I won't go into the details of the movie itself, since it's been around long enough that others have done so exhaustively. I don't know what criteria critics are supposed to apply to decide when something is one of the greatest movies ever made. But in my subjective opinion, this one ranks among the best.
If you share my view of the film itself, getting the Blu-ray version is well worth it, even if you think the DVD version is already impressive.
DVD Review: a cult classic for all ages Summary: 5 StarsA great Tim Burton classic. This movie has is it all,a great sound track.
A great love story and how one man finds happiness in every day life.

can pull together to over come ower problems.Along with some tricks and
a whole lot of treats. Happy Halloween!
DVD Review: Always a Classic! Summary: 5 StarsNBX is a modern classic. It's a great story about Halloween taking over Christmas. The characters are great, there's pathos and comedy and lots of fun for kids 10 and up. This version isn't very different from the laserdisk version which came out years ago. From the commercial I thought there might be some cgi goodies added or the new 3d cgi movie that was shown in theatres two halloweens or so ago. It's great for what it is, but I expected additional extras more than the download copy for Ipods, etc.
DVD Review: Nightmare Before Christmas Blu-Ray Summary: 5 StarsThis is one of mine and my wifes favorite movies, so we were glad to see it released on bluray. The video quality is very good. We were amazed that we were able to see details and quality that are nearly invisible on the dvd version. I would highly recommend this one to everyone!

Description of The Nightmare Before Christmas (2-Disc Collector's Edition + Digital Copy)Now digitally restored and remastered with state-of-the-art technology, THE NIGHTMARE BEFORE CHRISTMAS is deeper, darker and more brilliant than ever just as Tim Burton originally envisioned it. Can Christmas be saved? Bored with the same old scare-and-scream routine, Jack Skellington, the Pumpkin King of Halloween Town, longs to spread the joy of Christmas. But his merry mission puts Santa in jeopardy and creates a nightmare for good little boys and girls everywhere! Bonus Features THE NIGHTMARE BEFORE CHRISTMAS is the first full-length stop-motion animated film ever created. The movie contains more than 227 animated characters. Santa Claus' head has more than 50 different working parts, and Jack has more than 400 separate interchangeable heads, each handcrafted with a different facial expression. The smallest working puppet in the movie is a doll from the "real world" Jack visits that is only one inch long. Sally is wearing a real miniature dress laid on top of foam latex so that the fabric doesn't move too much on screen. At the height of production, the animators produced only 70 seconds of finished film per week. To create Halloweentown's twisted look, the design artists often made their sketches using their nondrawing hand. What's This? The full title is Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas, which should give you an idea of the tone of this stop-action animated musical/fantasy/horror/comedy. It is based on characters created by Burton, the former Disney animator best known as the director of Pee-wee's Big Adventure, Beetlejuice, Edward Scissorhands, and the first two Batman movies. His benignly scary-funny sensibility dominates the story of Halloweentown resident Jack Skellington (voice by Danny Elfman, who also wrote the songs), who stumbles on a bizarre and fascinating alternative universe called ... Christmastown! Directed by Henry Selick (who later made the delightful James and the Giant Peach), this PG-rated picture has a reassuringly light touch. As Roger Ebert noted in his review, "some of the Halloween creatures might be a tad scary for smaller children, but this is the kind of movie older kids will eat up; it has the kind of offbeat, subversive energy that tells them wonderful things are likely to happen." --Jim Emerson
