DVD Reviews of The Nanny Diaries (Widescreen Edition)DVD Review: Instant replay Summary: 5 StarsGreat movie! This one can be watched over and over again! I love Laura Liney...she's the greatest!
DVD Review: Fun DVD Summary: 4 StarsA great video when you want just a little harmless entertainment....with a moral. It's a no-brainer....it's just fun.
DVD Review: Better than three stars Summary: 4 StarsI never read the book, so I saw this fresh and thought it was fairly well done. I didn't think the fantasy red umbrella, like Mary Poppins, added anything, though the extras make a big deal out of it. The 5th Avenue family is well played, if overacted somewhat. Paul Giamatti is great as the rich father. Scarlett Johansson has a decent script to work with, and she comes off well. See this for some light entertainment. I wouldn't really call it a chick flick.
DVD Review: Not That Bad Summary: 3 StarsIt's not a bad movie to rent. I wouldn't own it. Definatly saw worst. Kind of reminded me of Bridget Jones.
DVD Review: By Far and Without a Doubt the Biggest "EMBARRASSMENT" in Scarlett Johanssen's career! Summary: 1 StarsFirst of all let's be clear on a couple of things:number 1 I don't hate this movie 'cause it's what some may refer to as a "Chick Flick"(true I am a man but I don't even believe in the term "Chick Flick" anyway. And second I love Scarlett for her beauty, grace, sex appeal,(and let's face it she's one of the few actresses lately who's more than just a "pretty face"). Now that being said the problem is that not only does this reprehensible piece of sh** TOTALLY SUCK but on top of that it's the worst movie she's been in since A Love Song For Bobby Long! I mean for starters there's that really corny opening using museum exhibits as completely confusing metaphors! Also there's that B.S. with her starting out referring most everybody by aliases to begin with(ie Mr. and Mrs.X and Harvard Hottie! How moronic is that!) And then at the end when you realize you don't even care anymore you find out the said characters "real names"! Next the only character who's name you do get to know about right away is the kid's! And then of all the stupidest names they could give him his name is Grayer! What the f*** kind of a name is that! Grayer than what a cloudy sky, an old lady's hair,WHAT! HA HA LOL! Anyway the script was pure Dogsh** and the scene where Scarlett Johanssen and Alicia Keys are singing along with George Michael's Freedom was sheer embarrassment! Especially since a)I hate George Michael and b) When Scarlett was standing up while the car was moving and dancing while wearing sunglasses she looked ridiculous! Oh and that scene in some bar where all these guys are criticizing her for being a nanny she spouting one h*** of a corny line afterwards! And I hate Laura Linney and the fact that Alicia Keys had very little part in it! In summation if you want to see Scarlett Johanssen in a good movie watch Ghost World or Lost in Translation and skip this waste of time!
Description of The Nanny Diaries (Widescreen Edition)Annie is a young girl from a working-class neighborhood who suddenly finds herself working as a nanny for wealthy family in Manhattan s Upper East Side. Between catering to the every whim of her employers and their precocious son and falling in love with their gorgeous neighbor Annie tries to figure out what she wants to do with her life. System Requirements:Run Time: 104 minutesFormat: DVD MOVIE Genre:?COMEDY/ROMANTIC COMEDY Rating:?PG-13 UPC:?796019803489 Manufacturer No:?80348 Based on the best-selling book of the same name, the film version of The Nanny Diaries is a cute chick flick, but it lacks the witty tone of the novel, which took time to flesh out the characters. The tone is set early on when the narrator notes, "In Africa they have the saying: 'It takes a village to raise a child.' But for the tribe of the Upper Eastside of Manhattan, it takes just one person: the nanny." Recent college graduate Annie Braddock (a brunette Scarlett Johansson) becomes the nanny for Mr. and Mrs. X, a narcissistic and selfish couple who have no clue that what their precocious son Grayer really needs is a mom and a dad who will pay attention to him. At first, Annie can't believe her good fortune. Caring for Grayer a few hours each day in the X's luxurious apartment seems like a dream job. But as her job turns into a 24/7 nightmare, she loses her identity and becomes Nanny. Annie's attempts to befriend her oddly charismatic boss are met with rebuffs by Mrs. X (Laura Linney). When Annie mentions her home life, Mrs. X is stunned. "Nanny, you never mentioned you had a mother," she says, as if she expected that nannies were shot out of giant pods. Despite the film's flaws, Linney is a standout. Like Meryl Streep, who made an unlikeable character sympathetic in The Devils Wears Prada, Linney brings humor to her role. Unfortunately, Paul Giamatti (as the philandering Mr. X) and singer Alicia Keys (as Annie's best friend Lynette) are wasted in their thankless roles. While we are meant to feel sorry for Annie, we are left wondering why a beautiful and educated young American woman would allow herself to be manipulated into working ridiculous hours for less than minimum-wage pay. When Annie finally does stand up to her employers, it's a little too late. For everyone. --Jae-Ha Kim
