DVD Review: Fun, educational series of DVDs for children

My 4-year-old daughter is really beginning to enjoy the Magic School Bus series of DVDs. There are three episodes on this DVD: "Holiday Special" sees the kids go on a field trip to a recycling plant and in the process learn some insightful things about how recycling helps in conservation efforts. "All Dried Up" has Phoebe trying to save the animals and plants of the desert and in the process discovers that they are equipped to take care of themselves. "In the Rainforest" has the kids celebrating Earth Day in the rainforest and learning how cocoa pods, mud puddles and bugs are all part of the ecosystem.

Though some of the concepts here are a bit complex for younger children [my daughter is 4], with parent's help they might actually have fun watching this show and even learn new ideas. I think older children will definitely learn a lot from these shows [6-10]. There are also bonus features on this DVD. All in all, this is great entertainment for kids that is also highly educational.

My son just turned 5 and has loved this show for at least a year. We don't get the re-runs on our cable anymore so wanted to get some of the episodes on DVD. He prefers some of the other episodes better but it is still good. Very educational, fun, and enjoyable to watch even for parents. Great for learning science in a fun way.

In HOLIDAY SPECIAL, it's the last day of school before the winter holidays and Wanda plans to see the Nutcracker ballet. But during a trip to Murph's (Dolly Parton) recycling plant, the toy soldier she needs to get into the theater accidently becomes a plastic pellet! The DVD includes two additional magical adventures to celebrate the season: In ALL DRIED UP, the always-caring Phoebe goes on a crusade to save the animals and plants of the desert -- and discovers how well they take care of themselves!
