DVD Reviews of The Last Horror Movie (Unrated Edition)

DVD Review: Last Horror Movie, that means that I'm...
Summary: 5 Stars

Ok, I'm not going to giveaway the whole thing but it's a pretty surprising flick. This starts off as a typical cheesy shot direct-to-video slasher stalker flick.

Just as the killer is about to cut her throat the screen fades and then some guy is talking to his camera and he tells you that he has erased the movie that you thought you wanted to watch, from there he takes you on a journey into his mind and life.

It starts a little slow but then he starts to kill, he has recorded all of his kills on video.

I found this approach very much like American Psycho, but here's the rub, this was out 2 years before American Psycho so I have to think that the makers of that movie saw this first then just made it a bigger production. Essentially this movie is the same but it still offers a surprise at the end.

As far as being scary, not really, I haven't been scared by a horror movie in years but this one left me feeling good afterwards and that's a rarity in the horror field as of late.

Is this a bloody film? Not really. It's Fred Vogel's August Underground in a way but with less gore and more psychoanalysis. He makes some interesting points about life and how we live it that as a horror fan you just have to laugh at but it also will make you think.

If you want Jason and Freddy, don't come here, but if you want an "intelligent" horror film, this is the one to pick. I haven't had time to listen to the directors commentary yet, but it will be interesting to see what he has to say about the making of this film. I think this is one of the better movies that I've seen in a while.

Don't expect blood and guts though, it has a more of a reality feel to it. This is Fred Vogel light with philosophy! Interesting and it will definitely stay in my collection.

Summary: 1 Stars

Okay, so I've just finished watching "my last horror movie". It's a shame too, I wish that my last horror film would have been better than this snooze-fest. The entire idea of this film is that a psychopath is filming his murderous life to share with individuals unlucky enough to rent the film at their local moviestore. The problem with this faux documentary is that for a slasher, Max is fairly boring. At the heart of this film, you are basically watching some guy's home video...and "Last Horror Movie" is just about as entertaining as watching some strangers home videos. Sure, there are plenty of murders, some low budget convincing special effects, but Max is such a sermonizing bore the whole thing is not interesting. I guess if you don't want to take the plunge and watch the "August Underground" flicks, then "Last Horror Movie" will work. But to be honest, watching someone kill multiple victims gets dull after awhile. Without a plot or story, watching some guy pick out victims and finish them off all while preaching about we "viewers" being as guilty as he gets dull fairly quickly.
If you have an interest in watching a horror film from the killers point of view, I recommend "Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon". "Behind the Mask" delivers the same idea but in an entertaining form, with a nice touch of black humor added to keep things rolling. Pass over "Last Horror Movie" and reach for something a little more entertaining with "Behind the Mask".

DVD Review: Your still watching aren't you? Have you asked yourself "why are you still watching?"
Summary: 5 Stars

I liked this movie for the overall twistedness of this movie. This is a very different prospective of a horror movie and very enjoyable to watch. It is inside the mind of a serial killer and what he is thinking about when he killing. It is a "mocumentary" of a serial killer's film. He does keep asking the viewer: Why are you still watching? Does this turn you on? I do recommend this movie to anyone that likes a "different type of horror movie".

DVD Review: Nothing scary or interesting here.
Summary: 1 Stars

Some people have tried to say that this movie is so brilliant because it brings up issues about morality or good and evil. I can see why some might feel that way, but I thought those issues were brought up in such a fake and forced manner in the movie, that it seemed irrelevant, not smart. Cetainly not credible. The ending is laughable, not a bit scary. In fact, nothing about this movie is scary, it is just a big snooze fest. If you're out of Ambien, rent this movie, it should put you right to sleep!
In the universe of films, ALL films not just horror films, THIS my friends is about as boring as a movie can get. There is no subtle message about morality here, just self-indulgent nonsense. It could have been an interesting idea but it was just beaten down by being so boring.
