DVD Review: One of the most amazing gay movie

I love this movie for many years. I saw The Incredibly True Adventures... on czech channel maybe about 8 years ago and I love it. I saw many movies with "L" theme but this is one of the best! No cheap hollywood movie, but great independant film. Both young actresses (Laurel Holloman and Nicole Parker) are really amazing, so naturely, so talented and the story is so nice and "clear". This had to of been one of the best movies I'd seen in a long time. This is a movie I'll watch many times without ever getting tired of it. The variety of aspects not often seen in a Lesbian movie, or other movies for that matter made it a unique one for all. Ms. Maggenti's fond memoir starts out as a relatively formulaic coming of age film. There are definitely elements of the film that set it aside from the norm. I was not prepared for the riotous ending, which almost bordered on slapstick; a fine ending considering all the angst and turmoil that went before. As Randy, Laurel Holliman is excellent, and, unlike some other reviewrs, I thought Ms. Maggenti's script and direction were right on. I found nothing trite about it. I enjoy independent film a lot, and "2 Girls" is told in a simpler and more straight-forward way than if it had been a studio film. Simplicity is everything! DVD Review: Why two?

The DVD, "The Incredibly True Adventure of 2 Girls in Love" was great, but why did you send me two of them? Then I had to return one, and I was charged with the postage by you. How many copies of the same DVD did you think I needed?
Otherwise, it is a great movie, especially when it was made by an unknown director with two wonderful young actresses that had a marvelous chemistry. I would recommend it for a heartwarming story, two great young actors, and for the fact that a movie can be made with a budget of $55,000, and still be very good, if not better than some of these mega-million productions.

Two teenagers experience the excitement of first love. Written and directed by Maria Maggenti. Year: 1995 Starring: Laurel Holloman, Nicole ParkerThis warm romantic comedy by newcomer Maria Maggenti is a gay coming-of-age story framed by Walt Whitman's Leaves of Grass. Randy (Laurel Hillman) is a stoner, lesbian teenager who happens to be failing math and dating a married woman. One day, fellow student Evie (Nicole Parker) drives up to Randy's gas station in a Range Rover and flips her world upside down. Evie is privileged and popular. Randy is poor, impulsive, and according to the other students, a freak. Opposites attract when the two girls kick off their friendship in detention. The flirtation blossoms after Evie introduces tomboyish Randy to the joys of Whitman and opera. Randy returns the favor by acquainting the sheltered Evie with the problems and delights of mature, taboo love. There is a beautiful scene where the two consummate their courtship on Evie's birthday while Mom is out of town. The true test of their relationship occurs during the hilarious climax when angry families and friends chase the troubled girls into hiding. --Margaret Griffis
