DVD Review: Inspirational, brilliant film

I have always loved impressionist paintings more than any others. I've read about them, seen them in museums, and felt intensely moved by them.

The brilliance of this film was in seeing the inspiration for the paintings, watching the paintings being painted and the actual locations. To say it was a beautiful film is a vast understatement.

The fine acting allowed you to lose yourself in the film. All the actors were good, but Richard Armitage as Monet was phenomenal. His eyes showed the joy with which Monet painted, the need to capture the moment and the light.

This is one film I will watch again and again. I'm so glad I found it!

DVD Review: Easy to take light history of the impressionists in movie form

"The Impressionists" has given me an easy to absorb light history of the impressionists. They, or most of them, devleoped their art form(s) while developing their friendships together. Their stories are told here, and some of their art is shown, letting one get a good look at it. The DVD makes a nice compact art history lesson. I learned quite a bit about the impressionists and the "time" of their art development from the DVD.

DVD Review: This Was Fabulous!

If you have ever wondered about the beautiful artistry of Monet's work, his life, devotion to canvas, friends, family, I highly recommend seeing these DVDs. These are two discs, based on records, diaries, etc., of The Impressionistic Movement. One cannot escape the passion of Monet's `oneness' with all aspects of nature. Monet's work captures his devotion and reverence for the flow of water, as well as streams of light. The canvases shown are breathtaking.
These two DVDs are alive with Monet, Manet, Degas, Renoir, Bazile, Cezanne, and others. They are portrayed not as rivals but rather as co-founders of Impressionism. The film demonstrates their alliance, how they would meet at a local caf?, etc. Oh, to be a fly on the wall of that caf?.
To state that everything about these DVDs will awaken your senses is to underrate the affect they had on me. A bonus is offered at the end of the second DVD. In it, one may not only see canvases that are gorgeous beyond description but hear parts of Berlioz's Requiem, Gluck, and others. These are quite unbelievable. They mesmerize. This is informative, as well as alive with the works of masters. It will speak to many. Very highly recommended.
