DVD Reviews of The History Channel Presents The Presidents

DVD Review: The History Channel Once Again Illustrates An Extremely Biased Liberal Perspective
Summary: 1 Stars

For the record I am neither conservative nor liberal.
Apparently, I am not the only one who noticed this bias throughout this documentary, although many claimed that the biases begin with the more recent presidents. This is completely inaccurate, because the liberal bias can be seen from the very beginning and can especially be seen in Thomas Jefferson. According to the commentators, Thomas Jefferson did very little besides; increase the size of government; have an affair with one of his slaves; described the Louisiana purchase as an act of hypocracy for Jefferson etc. Most historians know that these statements are either partially inaccurate or inaccurate altogether. None the less, the fact that they dwell on some of the negatives (even though arguably inaccurate) and ignore so much of the positives with Jefferson is laughable. These examples can be seen in some shape or form in virtually every president wither praising areas fit their political perspective or against. The History Channel has to take the greatest responsibility for these inaccuracies either through editing or commentator selection. If you look up on the internet some of the commentators names you will see the bias in the selective process.
One area that had to of been edited greatly was Woodrow Wilson's signing of the Federal Reserve into existence. This is fact; Wilson was sickened by this decision even on his death bed. There is a long quote from Woodrow Wilson on this. Many claim that the whole quote is documented and authentic, while others claim it's fabricated. For fairness the second half of the quote is documented and proven to be accurate. This is the documented part, "A great industrial nation is controlled by its system of credit. Our system of credit is privately concentrated. The growth of the nation, therefore, and all our activities are in the hands of a few men who, even if their action be honest and intended for the public interest, are necessarily concentrated upon the great undertakings in which their own money is involved and who necessarily, by very reason of their own limitations, chill and check and destroy genuine economic freedom." Woodrow Wilson
This caused this country to go into bankruptcy within 20 years after it's signing and arguably it's continued to negatively effect us to this day (many feel to an even greater extent). My only point being is that it's only briefly mentioned and as a positive decision only. Only one commentator speaks (after editing) of this, (just to give this numb skulls name, "H.W. Brands"). "It was one of the remarkable successes of Wilson's administration and it has done a remarkably good job in maintaining the stability of the American Currency." Even Wilson admittedly disagrees with this and he is the president that put it in place. Ask yourself, the great depression occurred 20 years after this was in place and look at the debt our country is currently in, do you think that the Federal Reserve has done a "good job of maintaining the stability of the American Currency?" My only point being is that many historians see Wilson's signing of the Federal Reserve as a negative. Why don't they present it this way?
To the History Channel, you better be real careful, because more people are becoming aware of this and your ratings will continue to take a dive and that's if your lucky (you may go out of business, especially if another network comes along that demonstrates history with far less of a bias).

Description of The History Channel Presents The Presidents

THE PRESIDENTS is an unprecedented eight-part survey of the personal lives and legacies of the remarkable men who have presided over the Oval Office. From George Washington to George W. Bush, THE PRESIDENTS gathers together vivid snapshots of all 43 Commanders in Chief who have guided America throughout its history--their powerful personalities, weaknesses, and major achievements or historical insignificance. Based on the book To the Best of My Ability, edited by Pulitzer Prize-winner James McPherson, THE PRESIDENTS features rare and unseen photographs and footage, unexpected insight and trivia from journalists, scholars, and politicians such as Walter Cronkite, David Brinkley, Wesley Clark, Bob Dole, and former President Jimmy Carter. Viewed within the changing contexts of each administration, the Presidency has never seemed more compelling and human. Narrated by Edward Herrmann (The Aviator), this three-DVD set is a proud addition to the award-winning documentary tradition of THE HISTORY CHANNEL®. DVD Features: Feature-length Bonus Program "All The Presidents' Wives"; Timeline of U.S. Presidents; Interactive Menus; Scene Selection
