DVD Reviews of The Gate to the Mind's Eye

DVD Review: Ear Pleasing Journey
Summary: 5 Stars

Wow, this is an incredible journey through many different styles of music. Thomas Dolby doesn't disappoint, from the almost primordial sounds, to more modern swing-funk. It also includes a soothingly beautiful love song. This cd offers something for everyone. It has a very cathartic, ending also. The movie is just as good and they go beautifully together or as a separate entity. A must for anyone's collection.

DVD Review: A classic in computer animation.
Summary: 5 Stars

I was just in high school when a new local video store started carrying animated films including this one and some of the others in the minds eye series. Out of the 4 or 5 different minds eye films I have seen, none comes close to the brilliance envoked in this feature. So much is the fact true that I have obtained it three times subsequently after losing the previous copy. It starts off with an apocolyptic war leading to the eventual demise of a planet. It then goes on into the thoughts and memories of one of its inhabitants making for a nice short story encompassed with the first 10 minutes or so. The rest of the film resembles things ranging from renaissance, cave paintings come to life, ancient civilizations, to the more modern and futuristic visuals of animals in their environments, robots, outer space and the unforgettable comedic performance of a parrot singing about money and eyes. Pair all of this up with Thomas Dolby's spaced out and soothing sounds, and you have yourself a contemporary classic that in my opinion can stand strong artistically 100 years from now when animations have excelled beyond our comprehension.

DVD Review: I cant find the dvd... but the music is all I need!
Summary: 4 Stars

I got the cd for free because my dad drinks pepsi.he "bought" it off I tunes and burned it onto a cd for me, thus a b-day present.I really enjoy this cd now. I was surprised that he dosent sing very much in it ( nuvouge is a singer)and i find the beats easy to find and very helpful if you are strugling through Strings class.I really enjoy it now, and like most of his music, I can go to sleep to it.( look at my about me section!)

DVD Review: I have a word for soundtrack haters...
Summary: 5 Stars

Okay. Let's start this off at the beginning. When I was in 3rd grade, I was fascinated with the original "The Mind's Eye" movie. So, naturally, when I figured out there was another, I begged my mom to let me rent it. That is when I fell in love with the music. It was excellent. It enthralled me like no music ever had. I found it to be imaginative, creative, and very pleasing. I wish to address the author of the "This is a "Soudtrack", not a Thomas Dolby album proper..., September 28, 2003" review.
I disagree with everything you said in your review. You are entitled to your opinion, but I strongly disagree. This is a spectacular piece of work. Also, I strongly suggest actually seeing the movie before you dis the soundtrack.

DVD Review: This is a "Soudtrack", not a Thomas Dolby album proper...
Summary: 3 Stars

I have confess to have never seen the accompanying video to this, partially because I found the "soundtrack" to be a bit disappointing. Aside from the couple of exclusive Dolby vocal tracks "Nuvogue" and the wonderful "Valley of the Mind's Eye" there is little to get excited about. Uninspiring instrumentals and even more uninspiring tracks with a guest female vocalist are about as packaged and predictable as a McDonald's Happy Meal. This coming from an artist who has produced a relatively brief, but otherwise execellent body of work, is surprising considering his (assumingly) penchant for perfection.
