DVD Review: DVD Does Not Play!

I loved this movie as a child. My parents taped it off of TV and I watched it over and over. I was so excited to find it on DVD on Amazon and I couldn't wait for it to arrive. I was bitterly disappointed to find that it will not play on my DVD player. As another reviewer noted, it says on the back of the box at the bottom that this DVD is only compatible with "Play Only" devices, meaning it will not play on any device that can also record DVD's. My DVD player DOES NOT record, but the movie still didn't play. All I got to watch was the copyright warning at the beginning. At 11 seconds, the counter stopped and nothing happened. The only function on my DVD player that worked at that point was the stop button. After several attempts, I gave up. I am so disappointed that I can't watch one of my favorite movies from childhood. I plan to return the DVD and maybe I will try purchasing the download version from [...]. I'd rather watch it on my TV than my computer, but I guess I'd rather SEE it than not, so I don't have much choice. WB has gone cheap on this product. I wish they'd spent the money on making a better quality disc instead of paying someone to come up with goofy cover art that looks nothing like the movie. (By the way, isn't Carolinus the GREEN wizard? So why is he in purple on the cover???)
UPDATE: I managed to play the DVD on our PS2, so I guess I will be keeping it. It was nice to see an old favorite again. The plot didn't quite hold up to my idealized memories of it, but it's not a bad fairytale. I noticed things I didn't notice as a child, such as the hero's attempts to find ways around big fights and violence when possible. A nice lesson for kids - use your head and solve the problem, don't just charge in and fight! I'm keeping my 1 star rating because of WB's poor quality product and the problems finding a device it will play on.
