DVD Reviews of The Fifa 2006 World Cup Film - The Grand Finale

DVD Review: What a Shame....
Summary: 1 Stars

I saw this on a HD channel a while back and the video itself is excellent. The sound and picture quality is amazing, like watching it live, and Brosnan's narration is a nice touch. It's subtle and informative. My one star review is in reference to the Cup itself. Germany hosted the event magnificantly, and their squad undoubtedly played the best during the finals. It all went wrong when Australia and Italy met. The game was rigged, and anyone who hasn't been lobotimized or is in denial like every Iti fan could see it. Several months after the finals FIFA even apologized to Australia and it's fans, like that was some kind of compensation. When I visited Melbourne and alpine Victoria last year, I personally saw how pissed these awesome people were/are when I would ask about that sham match. After that, the Ukraine, the "cinderella" of the finals got jittery and ran out of steam in a match up that shouldn't even have happened. The skill-less wonder Luca Toni had two fluke goals, and then the Azzuri were up against my Germans. After a little more foul play from FIFA which left midfielder Torsten Frings benched as a senseless punishment for a foul he never committed, Italy once again got lucky and scored two of the biggest fluke goals I've ever seen. It reminded me of Ronaldo's flukes in the 2002 final. Deutschland sure has set recent records for being cheated out of major tournaments. On to the final, Zidane gets red carded when football rules clearly state that a referee must see the foul to administer that card, which in this case didn't happen. Italy then went on to get lucky again in the penalty kicks. It's easy to win with the referees clearly on your side, messing with the opponents heads as often as possible. I mean it was just PAINFULLY evident how rigged the Cup was in their favor when all was said and done.

You get the idea. I'm just calling like it was, hardly being a mere bitter German football fan.

In conclusion, the 2006 World Cup was mezmerising to watch before it fell apart in the knock out rounds. Sadly it happened again for Spain in the Euros, making it painfully obvious that even the beautiful thing that is the World Cup is not immune to human greed and corruption...

DVD Review: The FIFA 2006 World Cup Film
Summary: 1 Stars

I cannot watch the product I bought, because I think it is produced only for the non European market. In future it will be goood to know whether the dvd is watchable in all countries or only on limited markets.

DVD Review: excellent
Summary: 5 Stars

its fantastic!!!! I love the way and style that they review the matches, the camera angles the narration. Easily the best thing you will watch on the 2006 world cup. Not as good as the 1982 world cup film but this one is really a winner

DVD Review: Not seeing most of the goals is frustrating
Summary: 4 Stars

I am a little bit upset about not seeing many of the goals scored in the tournament. Just key games were included in the video and most of them were qualifiers. Visual quality is very good, camera angle in the games is so great that it makes you think you are inside of the stadium.

DVD Review: Great for any soccer fan or historian
Summary: 5 Stars

This is a great product for anybody who is a soccer fan. If you are interested in behind the scenes or the player's view of the game scenarios, this movie is for you. If you are a soccer historian, this movie is for you. If you want to learn moves, or teach someone about soccer, this movie is not for you, this is strictly a historical perspective, it may motivate you or your team but it's not for training purposes. Great product.

Description of The Fifa 2006 World Cup Film - The Grand Finale

Relive the hard-hitting action of Germany's FIFA 2006 World Cup. Narrated by Pierce Brosnan this is the official World Cup documentary. Provides an overview of all of the action and drama including never-before-seen footage shot on 35mm cameras during the quarter finals all the way to the final game. Includes behind-the-scenes, off-the-field footage of the teams and fans and player interviews.
Soccer fans can re-live the thrills of the most recent world championship on Fifa 2006 World Cup Film: The Grand Finale. Using spare narration to analyze each team's progress through the competition pipeline, Fifa compiles generous clips from a number of matches, beginning with first eliminations. An overview of Australia vs. Japan offers another look at the latter's controversial goal after Australia's goalie was knocked to the ground. There's intense action in Germany vs. Costa Rica and Spain's match against Ukraine; Spain, we're told, is always good but never delivers on its promise. A look at Argentina's passing prowess reveals one play in which the ball was passed 26 times before a (successful) attempt at a goal was made.

From there it's the quarterfinals with, among other matches, England vs. Portugal and Germany vs. Argentina, both passionate games. Semi-finals bring Portugal vs. France and Germany vs. Italy, in which every player seemed to come to life. Finally, Italy vs. France leads to the conclusion of this World Cup odyssey. Along the way, the many penalties accrued by several teams are analyzed, including one game in which they were handed out at an absurd rate, almost shamefully. Player interviews include Fabio Cannavaro and Michael Ballack. --Tom Keogh
