DVD Reviews of The ChangelingDVD Review: Classic ghost story at its best Summary: 5 StarsWhat makes a good scary movie is a very subjective thing. I have loved this movie since I first caught it on cable, many years ago. I recommend watching it as I did the first time (and probably most times after that): Alone at night, in a dark house, with all the lights off.
Not everyone enjoys a classic ghost story...so many scary movies these days are filled with gratuitous gore, torture scenes, and the like. Not to say that some of those haven't scared the bejeezus out of me, or even been greatly entertaining, but this is not that type of film. This is just creepy and spooky, and lots of fun.
What I can tell you about this is that I often recommended it when I worked at a video store. Whenever parents wanted a scary movie that would be safe/appropriate to show to younger kids or that wouldn't offend or upset the parents of kids staying the night, this was always a hit. And the adults I recommended it to always enjoyed it as well.
DVD Review: A Ghostly Tale of a Cruel Father Summary: 4 Stars[This review is part of my 31 days of Halloween series.]
George C. Scott plays a widower & academic music composer who has lost his wife & daughter to a freak car accident. He uproots & rents a mansion that is...right, haunted. He brings in professional paranormal investigators & has his initial impressions verified, but no answers as to the Why & How to Stop it. He teams up with an available local gal & together they ferret out a tale of a father's betrayal and political intrique.
This is about all I can write about the plot without revealing it. I will say this much: The image of a "Changling" is universal, but in this case it is particularly associated with Ireland & stories of the Little People/Fairies. They steal a new born human baby & replace it with an ugly creature called a Changling.
This movie is about 40 years old (oh, my god! how old does that make me?!!?) & does not offer the really spectacular special effects typical of this genre today, but the script is so intelligent & the acting so good that it little matters.
I am increasingly concerned about how un-kid friendly our culture has become--and am pleased to report that The Changling is a real scarry story that is also KID FRIENDLY.

DVD Review: my neice loved it Summary: 5 Starsmy neice loved it she gives it 5 stars she loves scary movies the scary they are the better they are.
DVD Review: The Changeling Summary: 4 StarsGeorge C. Scott, Trish Van Devere, and Melvyn Douglas do a fine job in this chilling tale of a haunted house. Scott plays a father and husband that loses his wife and daughter to an accident. He is a composer and he decides to move to a rural community from the city. Scott is offered a Historical Society home to rent. As Scott investigates the reason a child was killed at the home he unfolds an in depth story of a families past. Scott uses all means possible to find out more including a seance. His investigation leads him to a powerful foe. The movie has great atmosphere and subtlety that makes it different than the current bleeders. The directing and camera work are excellent. It will make you feel as though you were there and it will quite probably give you a chill. This story builds suspense and horror. Well worth owning especially at the current $5.99 price. Good quality DVD and replayability. No extras. If you enjoyed this catch "Ghost Story" and "The Lady in White".

Description of The ChangelingGeorge C. Scott becomes the unwilling instrument of a ghost's revenge in this supernatural thriller.Running Time: 107 min.Format: DVD MOVIE Genre:?HORROR UPC:?026359063022 Manufacturer No:?90630 When a recent widower (the wonderfully overemphatic George C. Scott ) moves into an antique Washington mansion, his realization that he may not be the only resident leads him toward a deadly secret that refuses to remain buried....The best haunted-house film since the legendary Haunting, this potent, classy combination of the mystery and horror genres eschews explicit gore and dumb shocks in exchange for a subtle creepiness that occasionally builds to a terrifying peak (watch out for that seance scene!). The result is a satisfyingly intelligent horror film with an intriguing dash of Watergate-era paranoia. Director Peter Medak went on to direct the considerably more gratuitous and somewhat less effective Romeo Is Bleeding and The Krays. --Andrew Wright
