DVD Reviews of The Care Bears MovieDVD Review: Just plain mean... Summary: 5 StarsAs a child of the 80s I adore the Care Bears. As a parent, I love them more than ever. My son watches them constantly. The message of the Care Bears has always out shined the commercialism in my opinion. The songs are fun and easy to sing along with. It's a movie for children, young children at that. I don't think MOST adults would be able to give it a fair review based on it's core audience.
DVD Review: Classic childhood memory Summary: 4 StarsI was waiting to purchase this video for a long time because i watched it pretty much non stop as a kid. It is still as good today as when i remembered it and i would recommend it to anyone who likes the care bears or has children. I think it has a good message in it and can be enjoyed being watched by the whole family.
DVD Review: The Care Bears Movie Summary: 5 StarsI think that this is a great movie for kids! I still believe in teaching children values and this movie does that. It teaches kids the value of friendship and honesty, and being willing to help others. It's got songs that the kids love to sing. Very worthwhile!
DVD Review: I Speak The Truth:I Still Love This Movie Summary: 5 Stars As many who grew up in the 1980's I was reared on this movie. So I'm going to forget all the revisionist junk about product placement and get to my review of the actual content. The Care Bears are a community of bears who live literally in the clouds in a kingdom call Carealot. This story is about two characters;two abandoned children named Kim and Jason who the Care Bears are trying to bring back to a state of joy.The other is a bungling magicians assistant named Nicholas who falls under the influence of an evil spirit that lives in a spell book, who tries to manipulate Nicholas to do it's evil bidding. Once they're convinced Kim and Jason end up having to help the Care Bears as the spirit works overtime to destroy Carealot and humanity's kind spirit in general. In the end the plot gets really interesting and almost Shakesperean in a kids cartoon sense;Nicholas, the villian of the story doesn't get destroyed. The Care Bears convince him he was never a failure and doesn't need to take his insecurities out on the world. Funny thing is I didn't really get any of this until I re-watched this as a teenager. It was the 90's and the culture of the day was rejected what the Care Bears represented, prefering to lump with with a decade my generation wanted badly to reject. To be honest many people I knew as a teen ended up a lot like Nicholas lol. Especially some of the "faux" goth kids. With some people I was looking for the evil magic book. Well anyway things have......actually gotton worse in that respect. But I love the Care Bears. And whatever values this movie represents morally are still with me to this day.
DVD Review: Care Bears Movie Summary: 5 StarsI remember watching this with my children when it first came out on VHS format. They both loved it and watched it all the time. It was their favorite movie until they discovered Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Now that my children are gown, I have discovered the movie in DVD and have given it to my granddaughter. She absolutely loves it and drives her mother (my daughter) as crazy wanting to watch it again and again, as she did when she was little. I highly recommend this movie for the younger aged children maybe 3-6 years old. It's entertaining for children and has a wonderful story with a great moral at the end. Adults may get bored quite easily, but the time spent sharing the movie with your children will be priceless. You can't go wrong with this movie if you want to spend a lazy, rainy afternoon with your kids.
Description of The Care Bears MovieThe World is in trouble...and it's up to the Care Bears to save it! Starring everyone's favorite animated characters and featuring the voices of Mickey Rooney and Georgia Engel, as well as songs performed by Carole King. The Care Bears Movie will dazzle and delight viewers of all ages. Way up high where the clouds and rainbows live, the Care Bears watch over the Earth and make sure everyone is kind and friendly to one another. So when they see an evil spirit trick a lonely boy into helping make people mean, the huggable heroes jump into action! They come to the rescue with the animals from the Forest of Feelings...but it's going to take an awful lot of love to defeat the spirit's powerful spell. The Care Bears were a line of multicolored teddy bears that racked up more than $200 million in retail sales in 1984. The Care Bears Movie was essentially a 75-minute commercial to introduce the new Care Bear Cousins, disguised as a smarmy story about sharing feelings. The film earned $23 million theatrically and ushered in a spate of cheap animated films created to sell merchandise to children. The plot interweaves the stories of Kim and Jason, two lonely orphans who have given up caring, and of Nicholas, a friendless magician's assistant who's seduced by an evil spirit. The Care Bears resolve everyone's problems. Years later, the Care Bears' popularity has waned and the film stands as a reminder of one of the less admirable uses of animation. The stars, hearts, rainbows, and saccharine songs can't disguise the barefaced commercialism behind the threadbare story. --Charles Solomon
