DVD Review: At last! Official full season sets of The Beverly Hillbillies
Summary: 5 Stars

For years I have been making do with various collections of episodes, with only a poor instrumental theme bearing little resemblance to the original theme song. Now at last this wonderful show is being released in full season sets with the original opening and closing theme songs. Some reviewers have applauded the presence of the original sponsor messages on these discs. Personally, I don't like them, but the great thing is that you have the choice of playing the episodes with or without the advertising. Some of the difference may be that as Americans, the other reviewers remember the shows that way, with some nostalgia. For me, living in a country where cigarette advertising on television has never been legal, my fond memories are of the version without the ads.

This is a great set of my favourite season of a fantastic show, complete with all the original music , photo gallery and an excellent special feature, "The Legend of the Beverly Hillbillies". Every episode is packed with laughs; the Hillbillies are still as funny and as wonderful as I remember them from my childhood.

DVD Review: this is FUNNY stuff.
Summary: 5 Stars

I forgot how innocent was our humor 40+ years ago.
It is still funny, and as clever as ever.
Yes, it has "stereo-typical things, but we didn't place such guarded care over good clean, honest and silly fun.
We all need to go back to where our words and actions were just "sticks and stones," and trust more in each other.
Wouldn't we be a lot better off if we did?!

DVD Review: "Beverly Hillbillies" Season 3
Summary: 5 Stars

This is the best Quality DVD's I've ever seen.
The Video is razor sharp. Unbelievable.
The Audio has excellent fidelity.
Only 1 problem:
The rediculous, distracting and disturbing laugh track is louder than the dialog in some places. More annoying than usual.
On most new programs the more "canned-laughs" they add the less funny the program is.
Suggestion; Make the laugh track on a turn-on or turn-off option in the DVD's main menu.

Description of The Beverly Hillbillies: The Official Third Season

Studio: Paramount Home Video Release Date: 02/17/2009 Run time: 868 minutes Rating: Nr
No. 1 in the ratings its first two seasons, The Beverly Hillbillies fell out of the Top Ten in season three, which is curious because this is arguably its best season yet, with several memorable story arcs, beginning with Jed's foray into the movie business as head of Mammoth Pictures. The season opener, "Jed Becomes a Movie Mogul," contains an interesting early instance of crossover marketing as the Clampetts watch scenes from an upcoming Rock Hudson and Doris Day comedy, Send Me No Flowers. This third season introduces two popular recurring characters: Movie star Dash Riprock (Larry Pennell), who takes a shine to Elly May (Donna Douglass), and beatnik Sheldon Epps (Alan Reed, Jr.), who comes to dig "Big Daddy Jed and his far-out family." The Clampetts may be considered the strangest family of millionaires ever to migrate to Beverly Hills, but they are never objects of ridicule. Jed (Buddy Ebsen) is a fount of mountain wisdom and common sense. Excitable Granny (Emmy-nominee Irene Ryan) holds strong to her mountain roots (although she strums a little rock and roll autoharp in "Flatt, Clampett, and Scruggs," and goes beatnik in "Cool School is Out"). Young 'uns Elly May and bumpkin cousin Jethro (Max Baer, Jr.) are more receptive to assimilation. This is the season in which Jethro, under the influence of James Bond, decides he wants to become a "double naught spy." As with The Official Second Season set, you have the option to watch each episode with the original sponsor openings and tags. This set also contains the corny but fun1993 reunion special, "The Legend of the Beverly Hillbillies," a where-are-they-now retrospective featuring Ebsen, Baer, and Douglass, as well as guest stars Reba McIntyre, Roy Clark, Ray Charles, Eddie Albert and Eva Gabor as their Green Acres characters, and, of all people, G. Gordon Liddy. Scorned by critics, The Beverly Hillbillies gets the last laugh. To paraphrase Granny: There are three things in life that improve with age: Corn squeezins, possum stew, and The Beverly Hillbillies. --Donald Liebenson
