DVD Review: Terminator TV Series a Good Thing? Summary: 4 StarsThe idea of Terminator getting a TV series was always a possibility, I had wondered about for years. Within the mythos of the canon of Terminator, there were a number of ways to go with the series and the show decides to use one of them by starting out with the typical Terminator movie formula: the Connor's are followed by a Terminator and saved by another Terminator ala Terminator 2. The Connor's escape, but are jumped into the future, our present.
Therein, Sarah Connor begins to deal with her cancer issues, John begins to question his destiny, the Cromartie Terminator continues to seek out John, Cameron protects John and the Connor's seek out the Turk, one possible thread to the creation of Skynet. We're also introduced to the brother of Kyle Reese.
If anything the show has a solid foundation presented here and just really starts to explore it before the writer's strike came to head. Either way, the first season is a solid effort, that left me wanting more.
DVD Review: Better than I would've thought!! Summary: 5 StarsI just went through this and it was much better than I would've imagined. The series follwed the first two movies really well and did things in which were orginal (more terminators/humans sent back to build future items. Cameron's enterance was not a surprise when she hit the terminator with the truck also. I won't spoil the whole season for those that havn't seen it but this is definitly at least a rental. My favorite part (and worse part because we knew what the outcome was going to be) was when the Swat Team "armed and ready to go" arrived at a certain apartment. Also, a character seeing themself when they were young......I would recommend at least giving it a shot.
DVD Review: TSCC Season 1 Review Summary: 5 StarsSeason 1 really drew me in from the first episode, a love at first sight kind of scenario. This is by far the best series I've seen in a while. The complex relationships between man and machine, and even mother and son are tested throughout each outing. To add to that, the chemistry of Summer Glau and Thomas Dekker is mesmerizing, and is probably enough to get any teenager interested. However, their relationship digs much deeper than the average boy meets girl scenario... Any fan of action, drama, and science fiction will easily be fascinated by what this show has to offer. More than just a ploy to get some cash from the Terminator name, the series stretches well beyond the boundaries of the films. Tapping into deep philosophies in unison with beautiful action sequences...the show mirrors great films like The Matrix while respectfully keeping to a Terminator based storyline. The series does not serve as a continuation of the films, rather an extension on a different pathway. This frees up the writing and allows creativity to flow. Despite only having nine episodes, this season makes up for it by putting incredible quality into each episode. The special features are awesome as well, seeing how much work and care was put in really made me appreciate the episodes even more...and seeing the cast and crew sharing their experiences was very entertaining as well. As far as accessibility is concerned, my mom isn't an action fan or a science fiction fan and she watched 6 episodes straight last night...my sister has taken interest as well after seeing how captivated it has me :) Need anymore convincing? Buy this NOW :)
DVD Review: I love it. Absolute Masterpiece. Summary: 5 StarsI have to admit that I am not usually a fan of shows based on movies, but Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles is a welcome addition to the Terminator universe. (If such a creature exists)
This show has everything a SciFi/action show should have, and more. And while there are a few holes in it, I am more than able to look past them and see an excellent show.
The cast is really good and they make the characters believable and feelable.
It is also nice to know that events did happrn between Terminator 2 and 3. Events that helped to shape John Connor into the future leader he will one day become.
All in all, this show is a fun, action packed ride that will not disappoint. Unless you just happen to be a cold, unfeeling cyborg.
Description of Terminator - The Sarah Connor Chronicles - The Complete First Season The mother of all destiny. Her son, the future leader of mankind. Their protector, a terminator from the future. Together they must take back the future as Sarah Connor (300's Lena Headey) prepares her son to fight the war against machines determined to annihilate the human race. The clock is ticking. Can they stop Judgment Day? The man-vs.-machine tale that's thrilled millions gets a reboot in this series set after the events of Terminator 2: Judgment Day. Now the battlefield has shifted to the present. Will John Connor (Heroes's Thomas Dekker) seize his destiny? Will a cell phone salesman's chess program evolve into Skynet? Can the sweet but deadly cyborg (Summer Glau of Firefly) be trusted? Answers - and the fight for the future - are here and now. Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles is the weekly TV series based on the hit action/sci-fi movie franchise that made Arnold Schwarzenegger a star. Lena Headey (300) plays the title character, the mother who bears the burden of raising--and protecting--the future salvation of mankind, her teenage son, John (Thomas Dekker, Heroes). As explained in both of James Cameron's Terminator movies (this series considers the third film, Rise of the Machines, not part of its mythology), the computer system Skynet has taken over future Earth, and an adult John Connor is the leader of the human resistance, causing the robots to send android assassins--called Terminators--back in time to kill John before he can become a hero. John's would-be assassin--introducing himself as a substitute teacher named Cromartie (Garret Dillahunt)--tracks him down, but John gets a fighting chance with the surprise arrival of a benevolent Terminator (Summer Glau, Firefly) named Cameron (get it?), who declares, "Come with me if you want to live" (another nod to the movies). Thus begins an uneasy partnership among Sarah, John, and Cameron, with Sarah not trusting Cameron and Cameron trying to carry out her mission (some of her deadpans are hilarious) and John caught in the middle (lucky John!). The trio time-travels ahead to 2007 but still can't escape the relentless Cromartie, and also dogged by an FBI agent (Richard T. Jones) who thinks Sarah Connor might be more than just a fugitive. And while the series' fierce action looked like it might slide into a simple Chase of the Week formula, things got interesting with our heroes' discovery of a chess machine called the Turk that might be the first incarnation of Skynet, and a surprising addition to the team (Brian Austin Green). Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles debuted on Fox in January 2008, and the midseason start and the writers' strike kept the season to a mere nine episodes. But it was picked up for a full second season in 2008-2009. --David Horiuchi
