DVD Reviews of Teeth

DVD Review: Teeth:The Ultimate Chick Flick!
Summary: 3 Stars

Teeth is the story of a young girl with a slight abnormality in between her legs. While the blood and the gore are VERY good and the acting done surprisingly well, the story starts to get old before the movies over. Its like hearing the funniest knock knock joke you've ever heard...then hearing it 15 times in a row. Its great at first, but then by the end your kinda over it.

Overall, I would have to say if you are a blood and gut kinda person, you ought to watch this sometime. I payed 7 or 8 bucks for it, and thats not a bad price for it, plus, there are a lot of special features so I guess I would recommended this film to most horror fans...Especially female horror fans! Haha!

DVD Review: The Curse of The Vagina Dentata
Summary: 3 Stars

I imagine the concept for this movie is quite old, but not actually being aware of any directly influential works, this seems quite creative. With dentata meaning teeth, you can obviously infer the general concept, and it was interesting. The movie was generally well done, good acting, good sets, camera work, etc. The concept was, though, a little difficult for a male to fully enjoy and embrace at times. :) there was one doctor scene where the it proved highly cathartic. Overall enjoyable, but not one of those that I can watch frequently.

DVD Review: crap don't bother
Summary: 1 Stars

it's slow, it's dull, they probably spent only $4.99 in fake blood, the leading actress is ugly, bad acting. man this movie blows.

DVD Review: Interesting to say the least.
Summary: 2 Stars

When I saw the previews for this movie I knew right away I was going to see it. They could have made it pretty interesting and even funny, but instead they turned it into a big smear campaign against men. It's completely despicable how biased this movie is. The movie isn't all that gruesome with the exception of the very short scenes involving the "dentata". There's some sex scenes as well, but for the most part I highly doubt they're what you're looking for. Also, the movie isn't scar in any possible way. All of the men in the movie act like total scumbags and are always punished cruelly for it, either the director or whoever wrote the script has men issues and really wants to see them suffer. I'm not going to say that the men in the movie didn't deserve it, because for the most part they did, but the real problem I have is that every single man in the movie is portrayed this way. It even goes so far as to be a terrible twist on the term entrapment. This movie is worth a rent for the unique premise, but it will leave you wishing they had used it for more than just an over the top political platform.

DVD Review: A gruesome and hateful tale.
Summary: 2 Stars

This is the best example of misandry in a film I have ever seen, which nowadays is quite an accomplishment. There is definitely a persistent air of misandry throughout the film where all men are jerks, rapists, or molesters, who all ultimately reap brutal retribution. The one notable exception to this rule is the father; likely a concerted effort by the director to ward off charges of propagating negativeof male stereotypes.

If you take joy in seeing male sexist pigs get their come-uppance, in graphic,John Bobbitt style, as the camera relishes over their mutilated genitals, than this is the film for you.

Description of Teeth

Dawn (Sundance award winner Jess Weixler) is a pretty but prim high school virgin who unknowingly has a set of mutant teeth between her legs. When a supposedly likeminded boyfriend forces himself upon her, Dawn's vagina dentata start chomping -- which is just the beginning of "the most twisted story of female empowerment ever told" (DreadCentral.com).
A coming-of-age tale with a twist, Teeth takes a novel approach towards teen sexual angst. Sunny blonde Dawn (Jess Weixler, a Meryl Streep in the making) promotes abstinence at her high school. Her mother (Vivienne Benesch) is terminally ill, her half-brother (Nip/Tuck's John Hensley) is a tattooed sociopath, and her stepfather (Lenny von Dohlen) does what he can to keep the household together. When Dawn meets doe-eyed transfer student Tobey (Hale Appleman), her celibacy vow is put to the test. Simultaneously, she starts to realize her anatomy differs from other girls. Though Dawn's Austin environs recall the serene suburbs of Donnie Darko--except for the ominous smokestacks behind the family's ranch house--her secret power brings her closer in line with Carrie. It's a particularly feminine capability. When Carrie felt threatened, she used her mind as a weapon. In Dawn's case, a certain physical anomaly comes into play: the vagina dentata of ancient mythology (Camille Paglia, author of Sexual Personae, served as a consultant on the film). At first, Dawn has no control over the situation and, like De Palma's anti-heroine, she's horrified. But actor-turned-director Mitchell Lichtenstein (Ang Lee's The Wedding Banquet), son of artist Roy Lichtenstein, ends his debut on a very different note. Along the way, there's satiric humor, squirm-inducing gore, and a star-making turn from Weixler, recipient of a special prize at Sundance for her "jaw-dropping performance." Teeth is neither anti-male nor anti-female--as some detractors have claimed--but it's definitely not for the squeamish or irony-impaired. --Kathleen C. Fennessy
