DVD Reviews of Stuart Little 2 (Special Edition)

DVD Review: Cuter than the First
Summary: 4 Stars

The first movie is so depressing to me, except the ending when it's all happy again. So this movie was much better in my opinion. Stuart is still adorable and now goes to school with George and also has a new baby sister, Martha. The whole movie is great, talking about how to see "the silver lining" and making new friends, helping them even when they back-stab you, and also shows what a little white lie can get you into!

The only thing I didn't like is that, well, as awesome as the Little family is, they don't seem to care too much about their cat. I'm talking about the hilarious Snowbell of course (wonderfully voiced by Nathan Lane). We all learn from the first movie that basically Snowbell was acting the way he was because he was jealous and wanted to be accepted as a true member of the family and treated better. In the scene where the family all talks about going to the boat race together, Snowbell knows he is not included and is very sad about it. Well, turns out nothing much has changed, he's still not getting treated well. Mrs. Little calls him in to clean up an oatmeal mess left on the floor by the baby, then doesn't fill his bowl up. We then later see him outside catching and eating flies for nourishment, then going back in to hopelessly check his food bowl again. He complains a good bit about being hungry and how he dreams of tuna/salmon. Nobody notices he is missing when he helps Stuart travel the city to find Margalo (the exception being George, who knew where he was the whole time and inquired about his welfare over the phone once). Then at the end, they don't even act concerned that he was in any danger, or even check to see if he's hurt. By the time the third movie gets around, they act like they care even LESS about Snowbell. Even when he gets kidnapped by a mountain lion, they at first don't believe Stuart about it and then don't even act concerned about him at all when they realize it was true. Stuart seems to be the only person to even care for him, which is rather sad.

Oh well, I still love the movies, I just wish they would treat their pet better. As much as they seem to love animals (like Stuart and Margalo), you'd think they would be perfect pet parents but apparently not.

Description of Stuart Little 2 (Special Edition)

STUART LITTLE 2 - DVD Movie
Stuart Little 2 is that rarest of movie breeds, a sequel that surpasses its charming, popular predecessor to achieve near-classic status. Mr. & Mrs. Little (Hugh Laurie, Geena Davis) are portrayed with good-natured, storybook purity, and the rest of the movie follows suit, beginning when their lonely mouse "son" Stuart (perfectly voiced by Michael J. Fox) befriends an orphaned canary (Melanie Griffith), who is reluctantly stealing from the Littles for the villainous Falcon (James Woods). The con game turns into a search-and-rescue thriller, with family cat Snowbell (Nathan Lane) quipping like a borscht-belt comedian, but the real fun of Stuart Little 2 comes from Bruce Joel Rubin's hilarious, marvelously inventive screenplay and returning director Rob Minkoff's visually dazzling combination of live action and lavish computer animation. Matching the Babe movies as a wondrous marvel of family entertainment, Stuart Little 2 is an all-ages romp that's smart, sweet, and completely irresistible. --Jeff Shannon
