DVD Review: Great, But Missing Something

I'm a big Stevie Ray fan,
And I do love this DVD. But it's missing one key video--Pride and Joy. It was a historical video considering it was the first blues video ever shown on MTV.
I also would've liked to see on there the video of Stevie Ray and Joe Satriani (another one of my favorite guitarist). Another good video is Dick Dale and Stevie doing Pipeline. These videos are keys to me. Hopefully they will come up some time in another DVD.

My dad had all of these videos on vhs and was excited when I found they had put them onto dvd. It has every single one of his videos on it and most of them are pretty cool. Some are cheesy but, hey, it was the 80's! DVD Review: Great Stuff From The Master Of The Stratocaster

This DVD set from the late great Stevie Ray Vaughan has something for everyone. The bulk of the DVD consists of commercially released videos of varying qualities. While some of the videos are fairly primitive (at least the music's great,) some of them are absolute standouts. My personal favorite is the video for "Superstition" which features SRV and the band running into every conceivable kind of double trouble with the help of a black cat. The best part of the video is the very ending when you hear an offstage voice calling the nefarious feline to Stevie. The punch line is one of the best sight gags in music video history.
There is video from several sources such as television commercials for "Couldn't Stand the Weather" and "Soul to Soul," and two Vaughan Brothers videos which really feature Jimmie Vaughan; while it was a nice bonus, they aren't highlights. There is also a brief interview session with Jimmie and SRV that is interesting and will be eagerly watched by fans.
By far the highlight of the DVD for me, though, is the three tracks taken from the SRV episode of "MTV Unplugged." While Clapton's "Unplugged" performance is widely heralded as the premier event of the series (and I do like it) the SRV gig is a step above that in my opinion. I would have liked this DVD to have included the entire special, but at least we get these three tracks. SRV's moves on "Rude Mood" and "Testify" are stunning, and fans will be sure to watch them with awe again and again. (Warning: if you own a guitar, they will make you feel very inadequate.) It would have been nice to get a little more of the banter from SRV with the crowd, but I'm not complaining: the chance to see this performance (with a 12-string, no less!) makes owning this DVD not only worthwhile, but a must for any SRV fan!

Yeah, I had it on VHS and gave up looking for it on DVD. I read this review and immediately ordered it. Yeah, the cheese ball videos are classic for the era, and Cold Shot is perfectly articulated if you watch close. I believe the videos don't take away from the songs, ie ... again, Cold Shot is telling a story in the background of the song, watch AND listen because they go together. A must buy ? No, buy a very cool buy for the fan not looking for the concert experience.DVD Review: A little disappointed

What is on this cd is a tribute to the man who is the guitar master. What is left off is the real shame. Many of his top and lesser known hits are not included. Background info is good knowledge but if you buy this just for music purposes it will leave you a bit lacking. Also very short in length
