DVD Review: A Fun Movie & Spectacular On Blu-Ray
Summary: 5 Stars

I suppose a film like this will fall into one of two categories for fans of this series: either this was the best of the three or the worst. My vote goes to it being the "best" and especially on this Blu-Ray disc, which looks spectacular. However, I did find this movie extremely entertaining and not just because of the sharp transfer. It's a fun film.

Silly? Yes, but it's a Marvel Comics cartoon-come-to-life, so anything goes. A little too long? Probably.....yet I was never bored watching this, and I - and I assume most people - certainly got their money's worth for action, special effects, cool villains, romance, sentiment, good vs. evil, revenge vs. forgiveness, etc.

Even two main characters: Spider-Man and his pal Harry - both had two different personalities in this story. There is so much material packed into this movie, it almost too much for one sitting. The film can wear you out!.

Myself, I thought "The Sandman" was the coolest part of this movie. I've read a few of the comic books and thought he was the most interesting of the villains so I was curious to see how he'd be presented in here. I was not disappointed. His scenes were awesome!

This is a rare film: a ton of action and, at the end, a sincere message of forgiveness, not revenge, being the answer. Wow, is that refreshing to hear. Yes, revenge is more fun - no doubt......but never as satisfying.

For a little over two hours of totally escapist entertainment, this fills the bill.

DVD Review: Nothing terribly special

This is a good movie. The movie played well in all DVD players I used it in until I lost the movie somewhere.

DVD Review: Spider Man, I don't think so!
Summary: 3 Stars

This movie was a disgrace! We start out with Peter walking to watch Mary Jane's play (ok since when does he have all this free time on his hands) and he loves it. He decides to ask Mary Jane to marry him and his aunt offers Peter the ring Uncle Ben gave HER (excuse me isn't that a little disturbing) and as he's riding with all his happy little thoughts in his head (his spider senses were turned off at that moment) Harry S.K.A the New Goblin swoops down and picks him up. Peter fights back and begins swinging, but wait there's something he's forgotten... oh ya he forgot to put his suit on! Since when has Peter decided to , in broad night light fight a villain. So he fights Harry in an epic non-suit battle and hits him off his little glider and he loses his memory (oh isn't that conveniant) and guess what he has amnesia but somehow he can remember that Peter is his best friend in the whole wide world. So Peter is so happy he ignores him and hangs out with M.J. Later he takes M.J. on a date and the symbiote (oh scary!) attatches to Peter's motorcycle. Later he fins out that Flint Marco killed his uncle instead of the guy who was running from the police, looking like he just commited a crime, and was now dead. WHY WHY WHY do they have to change the stroy like that. It's such a simple and heartfilled story why change it!!! So Peter decides to be a jerk and seek revenge and he stays up all night (convenianlty in his Spidey outfit in his apartment) and takes a snooze and the symbiote takes over his suit. He wakes up standing upside down wearing a black suit. So he does a few back flips and swings for a little while and all of the sudden this is the best suit ever (What he doesn't even land one punch and this weird suit is awesome, what's with that.) Wary of this he takes it to Dr. Conners and he tells him not to wear it so Peter decides to wear it cause he can flip like nuts with it. So when he hears that Flint Marco is out and about he puts on his wonderful flipping suit, that he has no idea what it is, and goes to kill him. He charges in BAM BAM BAM, water attack, battle over. Then he goes to Aunt May and says "Guess what, you know that guy who killed Uncle Ben, I- I mean Spider Man killed him, isn't that great?" Aunt May says no and he decides he doesn't care. Hey let's go check up on Mary Jane, oh no she got fired because some critics said she was too quiet! What, just tell her to be louder but no, they decide firing one of their best actors is a better course of action than simply telling her to be louder, that makes sense doesn't it? So then she decides to watch Spider Man get the key to the city and he pulls an owie and kisses another girl. So he says one word to that girl and she breaks up with him. So to get her back he goes on a date with that same girl and then hits like 10 people. Since when has Peter decided to kiss another girl, what happened to "I liked her before I even liked girls." So then he decides to ditch the black suit and so he goes to Church where Eddie Brock (oh I forgot to mention that he just lost his job because of Peter) conveniantly has coome to pray for an evil dead to be done. So the suit falls off and falls on Eddie and he becomes Venom. So Venom goes to Sandman and says "Hey wanna team up, I know you only killed a guy on accident but maybe you can kill Spider Man with me, wanna do it" So he agrees with no hesitation. They start wreaking havoc on the city and they get Spider Man to come. Apider Man get's easily defeated so Harry comes and saves him. They brawl and eventually Spider Man, or Peter with a suit on, lobs a grenade at him and he blows up. Then he says he forgives Sandman and Sandman pretends he didn't hear him and drifts away. So there's your anaylisis and here's my opinion. The movie barely enticed me and in the theaters I was more than happy to take a bathroom break and there were many disturbing parts. I don't really see what people are saying about the battle scenes, they were sort of dissapointing. Overall this movie was horrible and I'm so sorry Tobey Macguire got caught in the middle of it, he was good in the first two but he was shamed in this one. I found the video game story much more entertaining.

DVD Review: What The Hell Man!
Summary: 2 Stars

This movie was a total dissapoitment. First off that was not how Venom was created. Second look at who was playing Venom. Third, why the hell was Peter dancing the whole time. James Franco was the best part & he hardly has a part & dies at the end. And the storyline was chopped and butchered. Loved the 1st and 2nd, hated this one. Sand Man was a bad character to put in the movie come on, Shocker, Carnage, King Pin, & even Rhino. Sand Man was a bad choice. & look at who was Venom, Topher Grace, hmm.

Description of Spider-Man 3 (Widescreen Edition)

Peter Parker (Tobey Maguire) finally has the girl of his dreams, Mary Jane Watson (Kirsten Dunst), and New York City is in the throes of Spider-mania! But when a strange alien symbiote turns Spider-Man?s suit black, his darkest demons come to light changing Spider-Man inside as well as out. Spider-Man is in for the fight of his life against a lethal mix of villains - the deadly Sandman (Thomas Haden Church), Venom (Topher Grace), and the New Goblin (James Franco) - as well as the enemy within himself.

How does Spider-Man 3 follow on the heels of its predecessor, which was widely considered the best superhero movie ever? For starters, you pick up the loose threads from that movie, then add some key elements of the Spidey comic-book mythos (including fan-favorite villain Venom), the black costume, and the characters of Gwen Stacy and her police-captain father. In the beginning, things have never looked better for Peter Parker (Tobey Maguire): He's doing well in school; his alter ego, Spider-Man, is loved and respected around New York City. And his girlfriend, Mary Jane Watson (Kirsten Dunst), has just taken a starring role in a Broadway musical. But nothing good can last for Spidey. Mary Jane's career quickly goes downhill; she's bothered by Peter's attractive new classmate, Gwen Stacy (Bryce Dallas Howard); and the new Daily Bugle photographer, Eddie Brock (Topher Grace), is trying to steal his thunder. Enter a new villain, the Sandman (Thomas Haden Church), who can transform his body into various forms and shapes of sand and who may be connected to Peter's past in an unexpected way. There's also the son of an old villain, Harry Osborne (James Franco), who unmasked Spidey in the previous movie and still has revenge on his mind. And a new black costume seems to boost Spidey's powers, but transforms mild-mannered Peter into a mean and obnoxious boor (Maguire has some fun here).

If that sounds like a lot to pack into one 140-minute movie, it is. While director Sam Raimi keeps things flowing, assisted on the screenplay by his brother Ivan and Alvin Sargent, there's a little too much going on, and it's inevitable that one of the villains (there are three or four, depending on how you count) gets significantly short-changed. Still, the cast is excellent, the effects are fantastic, and the action is fast and furious. Even if Spider-Man 3 isn't the match of Spider-Man 2, it's a worthy addition to the megamillion-dollar franchise. --David Horiuchi
