DVD Review: disappointing

This film on Merton is disappointing. They left out so much that was important, despite the fact that they had the courage to mention Merton's affair with Margie. You're better off getting the much older video "Merton -- A Film Biography," which, although it doesn't mention the affair, gives a much more thorough overview of Merton's writings and life.DVD Review: A sterling tribute to the life and works of a profoundly authentic spiritual seeker.

Soul Searching: The Journey of Thomas Merton is a DVD documentary about Thomas Merton, Trappist monk, "believing beatnik", and a 20th century author who devoted his life to the search for meaning. Award-winning producer Morgan Atkinson incorporates years of research into Merton's work, interviews of his friends, and footage revealing daily life at the Abbey of Gethsemani, Merton's home of 27 years, among other places Merton has traveled from New York City to Christ in the Desert Monastery in New Mexico.
