DVD Reviews of Soccer Mom

DVD Review: Garbage 1/5
Summary: 1 Stars

I do like kid movies at times, I am no movie snob by any means. And it's been proven time and time again you don't need to be able to act to make good movies. But this, this is just trash. And this girl, I mean really, where did she come from? I'd much rather go back and watch Spongebob, than this drivel.

DVD Review: This movie made me wanna hit myself with a "soccer mom"
Summary: 1 Stars

I swear that's what they should call it. The movie was way to sexual. This movie sucked. I found no interest. This is a Disney movie? It had way to much sexual scenes. I showed it for my class, I thought I was going to get a call the next day from a parent saying what the heck did you let my child watch, it was way to sexual at some scenes for a Disney movie. I usually like Emily Osment, but this movie was not her best. I just threw it in my movie cabinet and thought I never wanted to see it again. Horrible. 1/5

DVD Review: READ THIS REVIEW - NO SPOILER HERE!
Summary: 4 Stars

My 11 year old (soccer playing) daugter picked this out at the video store completely at random. Knowing nothing about the film, I really enjoyed the story-line and unlike many of the other reviewers, I am not going to disclose what it is. While the plot is far from original, my daughter and I had a very good time watching it together. If you are a soccer mom (or dad) this one is a no-brainer. It is filled with light-hearted humor, and the main plot twist is quite entertaining. Missi Pyle does a fun performance and you will see Emily Osment nicely pull off a role that is far from her character in Hannah Montana.

Regarding the remarks that some have made about sexual content, they do have some merit. While I don't think that it had a big impact on the movie as a whole, there was one scene where both me and my daughter looked away from the screen as if to say, "That's just gross!"

Bottom line: This is a fun picture to watch with a soccer kid!

DVD Review: Movie Fun for the Entire Family
Summary: 4 Stars

I bought this movie based on a recommendation from a friend. My wife and I thought it was well done and funny. My young daughters especially enjoyed watching Emily Osment and the soccer scenes. The story is not the most original, but it has a warm message driving it. Missi Pyle does a great job as Wendy and as Lorenzo. We really felt she cared about her daughter's happiness. It was fun to watch, and we laughed a lot.

DVD Review: Similiar to She's the Man and especially Mrs. Doubtfire...
Summary: 5 Stars

I rented this movie from RedBox and I couldn't stop lauging as the mom tries to play a popular italian soccer star just to convince the girls soccer team that he is actually coming to coach. She and the soccer star actually got into an altercation at the airport and he blatantly refused to coach the soccer team, but there are some real surprising twists as the movie progreses. I was laughing for more than a full minute on the part where the real "Lorenzo" pours a pitcher of water on himself because two other people poured water on him because they thought he couldn't "make up his mind" on what to order. The truth of the matter was the mom (Missi Pyle) was impersonating him and they were in the same room!

You just need to watch the movie to find out if the mom's (Missi Pyle's) act of playing Lorenzo the Italian soccer star is exposed. Emily Osmont did an excellent job as playing Missi Pyle's daughter and she is very good at playing soccer. I wish I could give this movie 6 stars because of how closely it resembled Mrs. Doubtfire and She's the Man (both excellent movies where people try to impersonate others).

I wasn't sure why some people gave it negative reviews based on the sexual dialagoue, but this is a teen movie. What did you expect? But anyway this movie is actually worth buying and keeping as a collector's edition.

Description of Soccer Mom

When Becca's (Emily Osment) losing soccer team needs a new coach, Wendy (Missi Pyle) decides to masquerade as the famous Italian soccer star 'Lorenzo Vincenzo' and take the job. Can she now lead Becca's team to the regional finals before her increasingly crazy double life comes totally unglued? Kids and parents alike will love this heartwarming family comedy about mothers, daughters and the unexpected goals that bring them together.

Teenage girls often struggle with self-confidence and the members of the losing Galaxy girl's soccer team are finding their own sense of inadequacy difficult to overcome. When their lackluster coach gets transferred to Italy, the team's hopes soar at the promise of soccer legend Lorenzo Vincenzo (What I Like About You's Dan Cortese) filling in as temporary coach. The team's excitement threatens to turn to bitter disappointment when the soccer great refuses to coach the team upon landing in California. Soccer mom Wendy (Charlie and the Chocolate Factory's Missi Pyle), concerned that her daughter Becca (Hannah Montana's Emily Osment)is at a crossroads in dealing with the death of her father, decides to take things into her own hands in order to avoid disappointing her daughter and the rest of the team. With the help of a couple of friends, Wendy disguises herself as Lorenzo Vincenzo and, before she knows it, she's coaching her daughter's soccer team incognito. Wendy's double life becomes increasingly complicated and comedy reigns as she tries to keep her dual identity a secret while inspiring the team to greatness. In the end, everyone involved learns an important lesson about the power of self-confidence and the special bond between mothers and daughters. (Ages 5 and older) --Tami Horiuchi
