DVD Review: Watch it with your child or even without - first time at least is a must!
Summary: 5 Stars
If this is first time that you are going to show this movie to your little one then I would
strongly recommend to watch it with your child.
Although everyone knows the story can get scary at times.
Many small children want to watch the movie knowing or having
characters but they can get scared during watching actual cartoon movie.
Disney released fabulous collection of toys to go with the DVD and Blue ray
edition commemoration the anniversary of the movie.
They are all beautiful beginning with the amazing Dollhouse that is shaped
as a Snow White Cottage, Seven Dwarfs Deluxe set that is just amazing,
with all limbs movable, dressed in cute little outfits and add to it
the fun of Doc who whistles a tune. This is one of a kind set.
Other toys in that limited deluxe collection were Snow White Prince with Horse
gorgeous prince doll dressed in fancy clothes that came with "handsome" white
horse just as in picture, Snow White Wardrobe with doll and Snow White Doll.
You won't find them anymore at Disney stores because they sold like hot cakes
but once in blue moon they surface on ebay, if you are lucky you might want
to catch one of them and make someone's dream come true
Movie is defenetely nice, made in good cartoon traditon that was actually started
back when it was made and is revisited by Disney frequently despite new technology
advancements. Even Princess and the Frog was made in the old fashion drawn animation
way.
I would definitely recommend this movie as it is classic, it is just that I would never in the world would a child as young as 3 or 4 or even 5 just put in front of TV to watch this movie alone, best yet I would strongly encourage every parent to watch this movie first time even in fast forward and see if it is suitable for particular child as every child has different threshold of fear and although chances are every parent remember the plot and the movie to some degree it is good to watch it the first time without a child and view it from teh child perspective, this changes everything.
Particularly scary scenes are:
The talking mirror -yes, they did it veeery unnecessary scary.
The huntsmen holding knife above princess's head - try to explain this to healthy normal 4 year old..
Snow White running through the forest where all trees and animals are demonized into scary forms coming onto her like shadows with hands heads and shinny eyes trying to catch her - super scary if you ask me.
Queen preparing poisonous apple - quite scary as well
Queen dressed as an old bagger looking more like a wicked Halloween witch then an old lady. rather scary.
Snow white biting apple - dramatized scene after the bite..
And one of the most scary scenes is the chasing the queen off the cliff during the storm by.. it is super traumatic visually.
Add to all scenes drama created by music and sound effects and it is really over the top for little one.
I would advise to watch for music changes.. whenever you hear more drama and louder music.. beware.. something is going to happen and this is when it is good idea to press that forward button or at least mute or turn down the sound as the scenes no matter how scary without the sound are only half or less scary.
