DVD Review: Fun-filled char chase movie

When Burt Reynolds was king, he decided what movies he wanted to make and made them. He and stuntman Hal Needham put together a movie combining fast cars, a beautiful woman, and the funniest sheriff ever.
The other Smokey and the Bandit films that followed were too silly, but the first of them was all about fun. The black Trans Am was the flashiest car on the market, and sales exploded after this movie hit the big screen. Sally Fields was gorgeous as "Frog", looking nothing like her TV persona "The Flying Nun". Burt Reynolds was at his debonair best as the lead character "Beau", and Jerry Reed was the perfect truck-driving sidekick. I was never a big fan of Jackie Gleason's TV show, but he stole the show with his hilarious rendition of a southern sheriff.
The DVD itself has a nice clear picture and the sound is great. Well-worth the couple of dollars Amazon wants for this 70s classic.
