DVD Reviews of Showgirls (VIP Limited Edition)

DVD Review: Live Nude Sluts
Summary: 3 Stars

What more need be said about "Showgirls"?
That Liz Berkley can't act, is kind of ugly and dances like a pregnant yak?
That Gina Gershon can't act, is kind of ugly and dances like a pregnant yak?
That the script is atrocious, the production values non-existant and the acting worse than anything seen in an Ed Wood movie?
"Showgirls" is like a train wreck, you don't want to look but you can't look away!
One star for the production, five stars for pure campy trash appeal gives a 3 star overall rating for this film.

DVD Review: Movie for men only
Summary: 4 Stars

This ain't the greatest movie, the story line is, well, kinda stupid, but if your a man who likes watching a little T & A, or if you have visited Las Vegas before and want to re-live a little memory, than this movie is entertaining enough to watch once in a while...

DVD Review: Trashy goodness.
Summary: 2 Stars

Showgirls starring Elizabeth Berkley is complete and utter trash but this film does have cult-status so I give it two stars instead of one. Berkley is no actress, she wasn't even that good on Saved by the Bell. Kyle MacLachlan always plays a creep well but otherwise than that Showgirls lacks sensuality. Horrible film from a good director.

DVD Review: SHOWGIRLS deserves a round of applause!! Literally!!
Summary: 5 Stars

I know that I'm not going to get any popularity for this but, sombody has to give kudos for it. Yes, I heard every bad thing in the book about this movie and I heard enough. Let's STOP the Madness!! for less of those who did like it, No more negative, controversial feedback! It's time to go back to our real memory lane. Nobody likes going back there for this movie's sake, but oh well, too damn bad, we're going anyway. In a positive sense, SHOWGIRLS wasn't bad at all. This movie was a message-spreader. But, we've read it all wrong. And Elizabeth Berkley playing Nomi, she's a human being that wanted to dance and make it big, that's all. And what do you guys do? Take away her popularity, call her all sorts of negative names and tell her to keep her clothes on all because of ONE MEASLY ROLE! That's a shame. Her character learned her lesson, I guess. I bet that Elizabeth is a nice person to talk to,I betcha. She didn't do anything wrong by taking the role, in my P.O.V. She needs a break, ladies and gentlemen, let's leave her be. And as for actor Kyle MacLaughlin playing Zack, I didn't trust him because he wanted to find out some information on Nomi after they slept together, so he was just using her. I don't know why Gina Gershon's character bugged me so much, but she did. Crystal always had the upper-hand, she wanted Nomi to stay on her level because she found her attractive, she had dance moves better than her and she never liked her flirting with Zack. Plus she played mind games and sniffed cocaine and was extremely bossy. Was it right for Nomi to make her fall down the stairs? I don't know. Crystal just needed to chill for a while. Nomi's african-american friend, Molly was nice. She has a kind heart. I mean, who else would help out a female with temper tantrums and waste a basket of fresh, warm and tasty fries? she would. She allowed her to stay at her place, and share some of Molly's clothes untill she got her suitcase back. What happened to her was completely un-called for. She just wanted to meet the guy she admired for days, what a disgusting way of thanking her. That's why Nomi took matters into her own hands and kicked his no-good butt! That's what friends are for, Nomi had Molly's back, and she gets much love for that. Anyway, I just wished that guys weren't so cursed by this film everytime they're reminded of it, but it's too late. That's more SHOWGIRLS for me! 2 thumbs up! Loved it!!

DVD Review: Elizabeth Berkley in all her Splendor!
Summary: 5 Stars

Showgirls makes for a delightfully entertaining evening. Elizabeth Berkley is spectacularly beautiful in her birthday suit!

Description of Showgirls (VIP Limited Edition)

Seduction, passion and power struggles unfold when the creators of Basic Instinct, director Paul Verhoeven (Starship Troopers) and screenwriter Joe Eszterhas (Original Sin) blow the lid off the seemingly glamorous world of Las Vegas showdancing to create one of the most controversialand shockingfilms of all time. Nomi Malone (Elizabeth Berkley) has what it takes to make it as a Las Vegas showgirlwhat she doesn't have is a way in. To survive, she accepts the only job available: lap dancing at a seedy club. And when she meets Cristal (Gina Gershon), Vegas'reigning showgirl, Nomi wants everything she hasincluding her boyfriend (Kyle MacLachlan). And as Nomi dives deeper into the world she so desperately desires, a rivalry between the two women heatsup. The battle for the spotlight becomes so fiercely competitive that it drives Nomi to desperate lengthsand devious heightsfor fame in Sin City.
When Goldie Hawn recommended Elizabeth Berkley for a small role in First Wives Club, she publicly stated that Berkley deserved the opportunity to redeem herself after starring in the ridiculous Showgirls. That says it all: this sleazy, stupid movie, which mixes soft pornography with the clich?s of backstage dramas, is the kind of project an aspiring actress would have to put well behind her to keep a career going (though costar Gina Gershon certainly benefited from her, uh, exposure in the film). Berkley plays a drifter who hitches a ride to Las Vegas, becomes a lap dancer and then a performer, and discovers--gasp!--there's a whole world of sex and violence involved with these things. Gershon is probably the best element in the film, playing Berkley's bisexual rival for the big spotlight on stage. Joe Eszterhas was well overpaid for writing this howler, and director Paul Verhoeven (Basic Instinct) should have known better than to take it seriously. --Tom Keogh
