DVD Review: The Citizen Kane of Yoga DVDs

Whether you are a beginner or advanced, this DVD is great. You can customize it so that you never get bored, Shiva gives great ,and is really easy to follow for a beginner, and her voice is calming without being annoying (it is pretty easy for yoga/exercise dvd teachers to annoy me so that is saying something). The backgrounds are gorgeous, and the music is also calming and invigorating, not just the standard cheezy Yoga DVD music. Highly recommended!

This DVD is really inspiring..Although i am not a beginner i am not advanced either, so it is perfect for me. There are some moves that i can not do right now, but i hope to reach that level one day. I think everybody can benefit from this DVD as it has lots of different poses. This DVD is so cheap if you compare it to other DVD's and also if you take classes. And i always think personal yoga at home is so much meaningful than class, you can mediate easier.Music is really calming and environment she used so inspirational. She is herself is also very inspirational too. She shows poses without taking attention on herself and this is really important to get focused.
To my point everybody will find something in this yoga, and if you are really interested in yoga, you will always want to advance to the next level so here is the DVD that you can use lifetime

This is a wonderful video that will be well used. I like that there are meditations and breath work included. All I can say--if your looking for a yoga dvd that you can use every day, this is it. This is certainly more of a intermediate video, but my mom (no yoga background) did this with me and did very well--I helped a little ;)

DVD Review: A bit different than the norm. Recommended.

I was a little scared off from purchasing this DVD by reviewers that said she used too much Sanskrit. I'm glad I ignored that and purchased it anyway. This is a great DVD! It's a bit different than the yoga I'm used to, but I'd say it's classic yoga stuff with a little bit of a twist. Not too out there that someone who is traditional in their yoga practice won't like it, but not your average yoga practice either. She basically just adds a little more fluidity to everything, but it's not to the extent that you feel like you are flailing around strangely or doing trance dance.

My favorite segments on this DVD are the dancing warrior segments. They are very challenging, fun, and get your heart going. I like the way she keeps almost constant movement. This makes it a good workout and something to really work towards.

The reason I highly recommend this DVD to everyonne is because of the yoga matrix. I do not like all of the segments in this DVD, but I like some of them. The matrix lets me bypass the segments I don't like and only do the ones that I enjoy. It also lets me create my own practice based on what I feel like doing that day or how much time I have.

The setting is also beautiful. This DVD is highly conducive to relaxation and meditation, if that is your thing. I was unsure of her voice at first, but I have grown to really like it. It is soothing and she gives very good instruction.

I probably will make this a regular in my collection. I still have some other favorites that I prefer, but this one is a great addition. Highly recommended.

Description of Shiva Rea - Yoga Shakti

Comprehensive but user-friendly, reasonably challenging but accessible to a variety of levels, Yoga Shakti is inarguably one of the best yoga products on the market--no small achievement when one considers just how many of them there are. Instructor-creator Shiva Rea, a California-based yogi of considerable international renown, specializes in vinyasa yoga (a vinyasa is essentially a series of flowing, connected poses, incorporating breath and movement and cultivating heat, strength, flexibility, and balance). Four complete practices are presented, ranging in length from 42 to 85 minutes and including Basic Flow (for beginners), two more vigorous Solar Flow sequences, and a Lunar Flow sequence falling somewhere in the middle in terms of degree of difficulty; familiar poses like sun salutations, forward bends, lunges, twists, and inversions are featured, although Rea adds many of her own touches (such as the four "dancing warrior" sections, sun salutation variations designed for intermediate users and focusing on hips, backbends, and so on), and there are also sections devoted to pranayama (breathing exercises) and meditation. It's all good, but the principal innovation of Yoga Shakti is the "yoga matrix," which allows users to customize and program their own workouts, drawing on portions of any or all of the four sequences to create series of various lengths and levels of intricacy (some guidelines are suggested for the less experienced) and thus keep their practices fresh and evolving. One can also do the various workouts with or without the instruction audio track on (the Indian-New Age-flavored music is quite good, and usually unobtrusive), and there's even an entire second disc, containing interviews, additional instruction, travel footage (filming took place primarily in India and the Maldive Islands), and more.
