DVD Reviews of Sex With StrangersDVD Review: Curious? Or just bored? Summary: 3 StarsSwingers clubs are somewhat urban legends. Google things sometime and you will find local websites and secret locations where one can join in on the fun. Whether or not we will join in on it remains to be seen. Here we see a documentary of sorts about a swingers club. Is this a true reflection of swinger culture? Hard to say.
Here we meet three couples who have met to swing. Each has its own personality and issue. One couple are married and are doing it to compete with the marital ennui. Another couple are classic swingers who are in pursuit of others with an almost animal thurst. The third couple is already in an open situation, and the man has to find a way to balance the power between his two women lovers.
I think most people are willing to see this from a porn perspective. We want to see hot, flexible, nubile bodies and instead we see common people who are just as unattractive as the people in your neighborhood. What DOES it do for you? Some of the couples say once the experience is over that they really didn't care for it or the people they were with too much. Since everyone is one camera and willing to show their faces and bodies, it's not much of an exposure of a dirty little secret. Guys are with girls, girls are with girls, and guys are with guys. They're doing it in tents and trailers, which I found a little disturbing.
Swingers are just like everyone else, I guess. If anything it's just as boring as our regular lives are.
DVD Review: Three Swinging Couples Summary: 5 StarsJames and Theresa are enthusiastic seekers of sex with as many different people as possible. They seem secure in their relationship and happy with the "alternative lifestyle" they have chosen. In contrast, Calvin, Julie and Sara are a diaster waiting to happen. Jealousy is rampant and Sara obviously feels like the "third wheel". In the case of the third couple, Gerard seems happy with swinging. But Shannon worries about it being immoral and setting a bad example for their son.
This documentary is neither promoting swinging nor preaching against it. Rather it's a non-judgemetal attempt to show the real life effects of having multiple sex partners. In two cases swinging clearly has some negative consequences, while in the third the couple seems to have found a way to fulfill their sexual fantsies while maintaining a stable relationship.
I found it to be a fascinating look at love, sex and relationships which is both entertaining and insightful. Highly recommended!
DVD Review: "We Put the 'Fun' in Dysfunctional." Summary: 4 StarsThe above comes from the motto of a swinging couple who place this saying upon individual cards for the purposes of distribution to prospective partners. Although you might not think so before seeing it, this film is very much a documentary as it depicts its subjects in a factual light. There is little spin as one senses immediately that all is not well with these human beings. The seven people profiled are physically attractive but seem entirely ignorant of the eventuality that sex can never be completely separated from intimacy. This is particularly true of the women depicted who are rarely euphoric and appear emotionally devastated at various points in the film. Other than in the literal sense, there is little that "swings" in regards to these couples. The youngest of them is deeply immersed in a hostile love triangle wherein none of the members seem pleased with "the lifestyle." These case histories are more painful than anything else. For women to behave in this fashion is completely unnatural and the audience sees that only one of them is not conflicted about the activities in which they engage. The constant drama inherent to the pursuit of a good time is partially hilarious and partially pathetic. One of the wives has to be hospitalized for "losing her mind," and suffers from panic attacks. Another female is afflicted with panic attacks after her man is stolen right out from under her. The victor then sadistically tortures the vanquished by insisting she be present to provide witness for their matrimony. Despite the silicone, these characters are not a pretty sight. Anyone who is opposed to swinging will be pleased by this film. It would be hard to present its subject in a less favorable light.
DVD Review: Not the best example Summary: 2 StarsWhereas the events being portrayed are obviously happening and while its quite certain that there are, undoubtedly, many people who use sex as a means to harm others, I found the couples being focused on FAR too mentally/emotionally messed up to deal with the issue at hand - swinging.
Swinging becomes the backdrop for the distorted view of a few, odd, practitioners. If these sorts of people were a "type" that dominated swinging, nobody would ever take it up.
This DVD is ineffective as a view into the lifestyle and even less gratifying as sexual stimulation.
DVD Review: Will make you curios Summary: 3 StarsAs part of my threesome research I enjoy checking all this products, I must say this video is good, but needs a bit more of glamour. The Lifestyle can be more glamourous :-)
Description of Sex With StrangersThis film is a groundbreaking study of a hugely popular, underground sub-culture: swinging. The filmmakers spent a year with three sets of swingers. Their subjects define themselves not through jobs or politics, but through their sexuality. James and Theresa are classic swingers who aggressively seduce couples wherever they go. Their prot?g? Calvin attempts to share his sexual freedom with two jealous lovers, Sara and Julie. Psychodrama almost displaces sex for Shannon and Gerard, who aren't sure whether swinging is the way to go to preserve their marriage. By embracing a free sexual lifestyle, all of these swingers have to constantly deal with issues of trust, power, intimacy, and love.
