DVD Reviews of ScreamersDVD Review: screamers Summary: 4 Starsthis is a good four star movie the ideas are new and its good action
DVD Review: Fun with killer robots Summary: 5 StarsYes it's an older movie. Yes the plot isn't that well fleshed out. Will you still enjoy it? Yes! Special effects are showing their age a bit but not bad. The ending hints at a sequel that took forever to come out. I am a fan of Peter Wellers and he was excellent here.
DVD Review: A trip inside the mind of a chaotic and utopian writer Summary: 4 StarsThis movie is based on Philip K. Dicks short story Second Variety. The book is obviously much better then the movie. More realistic, and the characters have more depth. Even though Screamers deviates from the real story in several aspects, you can still understand the general idea. It's more of a tribute to Mr. Dick then a based-on movie.
In the book, the Soviets and the Allies killed the world with their nuclear war. The Allies had the worst. They had to move all industries and government to the Moon. Close to loosing the war to the Soviets, the Allies created the Claw. They were supposed to manufacture themselves, heal themselves, and do whatever they had to do to destroy the Soviets. But there were two problems. First, they didn't differentiate Allies from Soviets. The only thing that made them not kill "us" was a tablet that scrambled their heat vision. The second problem was that they were getting smarter, and creating new designs, evolving...
In the movie, all the scenery changes. It's a war against a mining corporation and a miners union on a fictional planet called Sirius 6B. The miners created the Automated Mobile Weapon, that they nicknamed Screamers. And, as the book, they turned the switch on, and ran away, leaving the Screamers to manufacture and heal themselves. And, as the book, they start to evolve... If you've read the book, you won't like the movie. But if you watch the movie before reading the book, you'll definitively have a good time.
DVD Review: SCREAMERS Summary: 3 StarsI BOUGHT THIS DVD BECAUSE OF ROY DUPUIS. THE MOVIE WAS OKAY. I DON'T KNOW IF ROY WAS GOING FOR COMEDIC RELIEF IN ONE SCENE WHERE HE'S TALKING ABOUT COMING INTO THE WORLD LEGS FIRST, AND BEING BORN WITH TEETH. BUT THE WAY IT IS DELIVERED JUST CRACKS ME UP. THAT WAS THE BEST PART OF THE MOVIE FOR ME. I STILL LAUGH WHEN I THINK OF THAT SCENE.
DVD Review: B Movie destined to be classic. Summary: 3 StarsIn my teens this movie was on cable movie channels after dark "constantly" While the plot and storyline is very developed the acting is mediocre at best as well as unconvincing.
However this film does seem to grab at the viewers human side and give it a jolt from the evil machine side as the concept of killer machines in the ground called "screamers" is something to scream about even though the film doesn't do it for you.
I rated this film three stars because I believe with the low budget and extremely small pool of actors to choose from the film did pull off a sense of satisfaction. I had fond memories of this film and believe it will stick around in the underground scifi circuit.
