DVD Review: AN UNDER-RATED CLASSIC Summary: 5 StarsNot only completely ignored by the oscars , but it didn't even win a single award , and i think thats a shame , it happens to be one of the greatest movies ever made in my opinion and also one of Al Pacino's greatest performances , a true masterpiece.
DVD Review: Quality DVD's Summary: 5 StarsI am not really a fan of "Scarface" (very violent, not my cup of tea, but Pacino should've won an Oscar for his great acting) but my boyfriend is. So I brought him this for his birthday. He loves it. From what I saw, the picture and sound is very clear, there are a lot of interesting extras that fans will love, like deleted scenes, making of, e.t.c.
DVD Review: Would Be Great If It Wasn't So Long Summary: 4 StarsIt's a really drawn out movie that really didn't need to be, but it doesn't stop Scarface from being really fun. There is no denying that Al Pacino is one of the kings of American actors and he is as good as ever. How can anyone really hate this movie when the acting and writing is so good that it makes the bad guys look good?
I think that this movie made more of an impact then than it would if it was made now. The reason being that this was such a hardcore movie back then, that they had to fight to give this an R rating. By the today's standards, the movie is kind of tame. So, it's easy to be jaded watching this movie now, but this really added something to the genre that was missing. Scarface, like the Godfather before it, once again emphasized the human side of "criminals". This movie definitely shows grey and nothing is black and white. You can't help but almost cry when watching the last few minutes of the film.
DVD Review: The Charisma of Scarface Summary: 5 StarsIt is no wonder that after 25 years, "Scarface" is still ranked among the best of all gangster movies. Why? Apart from great acting and cinematography, "Scarface" spoke to the philosophy and "rugged individualism" of many Americans. The drug culture during the 1970's and 1980's was huge and the underclass in society ate up the likes of Tony Montana. Just as a similar demographic devoured and emulated the character "Priest" in the movie "Superfly." Movies in this genre' will always be popular, because of its maverick, anti-establishment and "Die or Get Rich Trying" themes.
In contemporary times, the drug culture doesn't have the cachet it once had. The sports and entertainment industry have trumped the need for "wanna be" gangsters to risk life and limb to hustle street pharmaceuticals. Now, they hustle "beats" and "rhymes."
"Scarface" survives, despite its by-gone drug culture, because its business tenets apply to any industry. At best, it's a business movie about competition, monopolies, branding and the will to win; All great concepts for business and life. Who would think such a movie could touch so many human aspirations while leaving so much carnage?

Description of Scarface (Full Screen Anniversary Edition)In spring 1980 the port at mariel harbor was opened & thousands set sail for the usa. They came in search of the american dream. One of them found it on the sun washed avenues of miami wealth power & passion beyond his wildest dreams. He was tony montana but the world will remember him by another name..Scarface!!! Studio: Uni Dist Corp. (mca) Release Date: 07/24/2007 Starring: Al Pacino Steven Bauer Run time: 170 minutes Rating: R Director: Brian Depalma This sprawling epic of bloodshed and excess, Brian De Palma's update of the classic 1932 crime drama by Howard Hawks, sparked controversy over its outrageous violence when released in 1983. Scarface is a wretched, fascinating car wreck of a movie, starring Al Pacino as a Cuban refugee who rises to the top of Miami's cocaine-driven underworld, only to fall hard into his own deadly trap of addiction and inevitable assassination. Scripted by Oliver Stone and running nearly three hours, it's the kind of film that can simultaneously disgust and amaze you (critic Pauline Kael wrote "this may be the only action picture that turns into an allegory of impotence"), with vivid supporting roles for Steven Bauer, Michelle Pfeiffer, Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio, and Robert Loggia. --Jeff Shannon
