DVD Review: a collectible only Summary: 3 StarsI am a classically trained Pilates instructor with over 6 years of teaching experience. In that time, I have seen very few dvd's that I would recommend over Brooke Siler's book. This is no exception, I am sorry to say. It's a great reference guide and certainly, you can get some in depth points on particular moves. However, to be repetative, this is more of a reference guide than any sort of a "follow along" workout.
DVD Review: Thank you, Romana! Summary: 5 StarsI would like to thank Romana Kryzanowska for making these DVD's. As someone who will probably never have the good fortune of working with Romana Kryzanowska in person, I bought this gift set mainly to witness her teach, and this DVD delivers. For that it is worth 5 stars in itself, especially for someone like myself who lives in an area where true authentic Pilates classes are nearly non-existent.
What I didn't expect, after reading some of the reviews, was to get too much out of the workouts. So, I was (pleasantly) surprised when I found myself really loving the workouts, which go quickly, as well as picking up valuable pointers. I really like the way there is a workout that consists of a discussion of how to do each of the movements, followed by the same workout that flows.
I was doing Pilates off and on for several years before it clicked in that Pilates really is more of an art than a series of exercises. But when I finally "got it", it made all the difference in my workouts and results. Like dance or other physical art forms, it's important that you continue to keep learning more and more about the methodology. If you do, you will be repaid with feeling and looking better than you ever have in your life.
I enjoyed these so much I now hope that Romana Kryzanowska and/or her grand/children will produce a Reformer set of DVD's. If so, I will be first in line to buy them.
DVD Review: Seriously it's terrible!!!! Summary: 1 StarsThis is the worst work out video I've ever purchased. Sure the footage can be a little interesting to new comers who don't know the history behind pilates but to someone who's been doing it for a long time and looking for something to switch up their routine a little this is the worst thing possible. There is hardly any actual workout footage and what footage they do have is poorly put together. The music put to this dvd and how the workout is set up is so ultimately aggravating. I couldn't stand the woman's voice telling you how to do the workout long enough to actually finish one workout. I had to mute my tv just to do the workout. Worst purchase ever. Recommendation: seriously reconsider.
DVD Review: Good Compilation Summary: 4 StarsRomana is incredible. I hope I am in such good shape at her age. This set of 4 is good, but gets repetitive. If you run across a used version of this Set of 4 somwhere, buy it; but do not spend mega bucks just to have all 4 DVDs. I have been doing pilates for some time and the final two DVDs I feel include more for the money; the first 2 DVDs work their way up to them. Each of DVDs has a "History of Joseph Pilates" of it, which is nice, but if you own all 4 why would you watch it over and over again. I like Romana because she can get quite humorous with the students she is instructing; it's refreshing to work out to a DVD with an instructor who has a sense of humor. Overall its a good set, but if you find "Powerhouse Mat Workout" and "Advanced Mat Workout" seperately buy them instead of all 4.
