This video takes you through all the basics from flying a trainer kite up to getting on the board. The production is professional and the curriculum is well designed. The only bummer is that the instruction stops when the student gets up on the board, so there is no discussion of board handling, skills, etc. There could be more discussion on the safety aspects. I used it as a supplement/preparation tool for professional lessons and it was excellent when used for this purpose. There is also a helpful bonus section on understanding the different types of gear and what to look for in your first rig. I thought enough of this video that I'm flying cross-country next week to take my intermediate lessons at their facility in Cape Hatteras.

Description of Real Evolution
This is the second installment of a 5 DVD instructional series from Real Kiteboarding - the largest lesson center in the world. The first DVD, Zero to Hero took you from rank beginner to the self-sufficient riding level. Now you're on the water and are ready to step up and do some more serious riding. What may be the most unique aspect of Evolution is not the specific moves and techniques within kiteboarding it teaches you, but that it lays out the most effective way you should go about learning these things. Other DVDs probably wont teach you the specifics of circuit training, or doing downwinders, or how to practice your boardriding, but if you really want to learn quickly and correctly, pay attention to these early sections. Plan out your sessions and stick to your plan - that's the way to get to the next level safe and fast. Evolution goes into detail about riding both ways - regular and switch, the stop, slide, heelside, and toeside transitions, sheeting and safety systems, riding stance, and finally, riding upwind. And just like Zero to Hero, the bonus sections are extensive. There is an Evolution level Coaches Tips sections where all the Real coaches share their kiteboarding learning and teaching experiences, giving you several different perspectives. There's massive tech sections on both kites and boards, which will be very helpful as you get to the point in your riding where you can understand the differences in equipment. The kite tech section is especially helpful as it lays out the differences and similarities between 4-line, 5-line, and bow or SLE kites. It teaches you how each are rigged, tuned, and relaunched from the water. At the moment, Evolution is the only kiteboarding DVD that addresses and utilized the new bow kites. Helpful graphics and every conceivable POV angle - trackingcam, helmetcam, overheadcam, barcam - is used to best demonstrate both proper, and improper techniques.
