DVD Review: I didn't love it, but I didn't despise it either. :)

My kids enjoyed this dvd, but I think they had a bit of difficulty trying to grasp some of what the words they were saying meant. It is cute, and while they can sing the songs, I think it was still a little too intermediate for them (they are 4, 5, and 7). But it is a great resource to have & I'll hold onto it in the hopes that they will get more from it in another year or two. It's hard to find good Spanish resources for kids! That it's good quality alone, gives it four stars! DVD Review: It's Alright.

I teach pre-school Spanish, and this was the first DVD I recommended to parents. The story line is that there are four children - an English speaking boy and girl and a Spanish speaking boy and girl - and Professor Parrot helps them become friends by teaching the English speaking children Spanish. They start out with two songs, one teaching introductions and one teaching numbers 1-20. After the numbers song, they visit a friend of Professor Parrot, a native Spanish speaker (who doesn't speak any English on the DVD), that tells the story of Goldilocks. After the story, the kids review phrases from the story, hearing them in English, then acting them out while saying them in Spanish (knock on the door, sit in the chair, etc.) The DVD ends with two more songs, one naming the parts of the body, and one about colors.
Between segments the children speak to Professor Parrot, and he responds, in their own languages.

As other reviewers have said, my main problem is that it teaches not much more than the basics, but you can only go so far with one thirty minute DVD. It would be great if the company would release an entire series.
The DVD is great for all ages, but if your children are very young, don't be afraid to try DVDs such as Plaza Sesamo, produced entirely in Spanish for Spanish speaking children.
DVD Review: 3.5 yr old loves Professor Parrot

This is still a new item in our house, but since day 1, it has made a repeat appearance everyday. My daughter begs to have the Professor Parrot movie played on the dvd. Tonight, my husband heard her singing herself to sleep in spanish. She was repeating the songs from the dvd. I just downloaded the 4 page workbook which will enhance my pronunciation of a few words.
The only downside - - no other DVDs. What's Next!!?span
